I had seen the Youtube vids and thought it was rigged....Then Adam and Jamie demonstrated that this combination really does essplode!!

Any chemistry wiz available here to 'splain how this one works??

    Ice expanding too fast??

Melting ice gasses oxidizing the termite reaction??

    WTF??

    That kicked ass.

Imagine putting a ton of thermite on Greenland.

No. We haven't put a ton of thermite on it yet.

After that...we could see how green it really is.

    Thermite always wins

Ever seen it dropped into liquid nitrogen?

I like how they lit a long fuse and let it burn over dry grass.

Well, no shit!....You're going to introduce an intense heat source to the liquid form of an element that is gaseous at a normal ambient temperature.

The ambient temperature spread is waaaaaay lower in the case of ice.

I'm seriously interested in some kind of chemical or other explanation for this violent reaction.

What I would like to see would be for thermite to be frozen into a massive block of ice (i.e. 5 feet in diameter) and see what happens.
