I had seen the Youtube vids and thought it was rigged....Then Adam and Jamie demonstrated that this combination really does essplode!!

Ice expanding too fast??

Melting ice gasses oxidizing the termite reaction??

Well, no shit!....You're going to introduce an intense heat source to the liquid form of an element that is gaseous at a normal ambient temperature.

The ambient temperature spread is waaaaaay lower in the case of ice.

I'm seriously interested in some kind of chemical or other explanation for this violent reaction.

What I would like to see would be for thermite to be frozen into a massive block of ice (i.e. 5 feet in diameter) and see what happens.
