It's more complicated than you're describing, but one thing is absolutely clear: Voudun is NOT a form of Satanism.

The slaves in Haiti were not allowed their African faith, but were required to convert to Catholicism. Their solution to this was to equate the gods of their native faith with various saints from the Catholic pantheon. This hybrid was the type of voodoo practiced in Haiti until fairly recently, when some attempt has been made by purists to resurrect the original divine names and images.

Really serious practitioners of voodoo, like really serious Wiccans, are also magic-users, but most Haitians aren't, or no more so than a less hybrid sort of Catholic is practicing magic by praying, crossing himself, or incanting an Ave Maria. In any case, magic isn't Satanism, either.
