The war on Poverty and how it is affecting the economy.(15 Trillion Dollars spent)

Again, we spend 47 cents out of every military dollar in the world, we have a military stronger than the next eight nations combined.....and you call that underfunded
[/QUOTE]

yes, we are the world's policeman and we just lost in Korea Vietnam Iraq Afghanistan.

Spending money to help those who desperately need help is better than spending on a bloated military and overloaded prison system

1) we need more on military since we now face Russia and China and just lost in Korea Vietnam Iraq Afghanistan

2) prisons need more since conditions there are horrible

If the US actually punished its criminals like they do in Saudi Arabia, there would be less crime and less repeat offenders.
1. If you went into a 7/11 and stole something, you would have your ear notched showing that you did a crime.
2. If you went back after that and did another crime, they would check your ear and if notched, would cut off the hand that you eat with. (and not get welfare but have to be supported by your family or beg)
3. If you once again didn't learn your lesson and committed another crime, they would cut off the other remaining hand and then still not get welfare but that criminal would have to use his feet or stubs to eat with. Crime in Saudi Arabia wasn't committed much, there were still some foreign nationals that thought they could get away with crime, but once caught ended up on the chopping block.
4. If someone murdered someone else, they got 1 appeal in a year, and if lost the appeal, then their head was conveniently separated from their shoulders. No repeat offenders.

Sounds extreme, but with killers, rapist, and child molesters escaping from prison time and again, and billions of dollars wasted on these thugs, it wouldn't take long to have just a few prisons left.

Shouldn't EVERYONE contribute income taxes to support America?

only to extent absolutely necessary since country was formed to oppose govt and taxes. Do you understand?

So you agree that income taxes should be lowered on those who are paying all the taxes and allow the 47% who pay no income taxes to participate and share in the support of our country?

PLEASE be SPECIFIC, who would fill the vacuum?

Russia, China, Iran or North Korea?

As you know, we are now, and will forever be a WORLD ECONOMY. So please tell us how anyone else filling the vacuum is good for America and our citizens.

Don't say no one, or let everyone take care of themselves. That's a typical Progressive diversion, dodge, whatever you want to call it?

Lame Duck President Obama has simply shown his impotence and timidity and Russia has taken over Crimea and has tanks and combat troops in Ukraine. China is building Islands for combat troops and air bases in the contested islands in the China Sea. North Korea's people are starving and he is doing nuclear testing and launching missiles from submarines. Iran is building a nuclear weapon and the Middle East has exploded since President Obama's and Hillary Clinton's foreign policy failures.
Who would fill the vacuum

EU, S Korea, Japan

All have more social programs and more modern infrastructure because they can lean on us to defend them

Please explain for us all how having more social programs, making citizens dependent on government instead of personal responsibility a good thing?

The question, by the way, is who would fill the vacuum and how would that be great for America?

What "modern infrastructure" does the EU, South Korea or Japan have which we do not.

Please do not go to high-speed rail. The only one in the US that pays its way is the Acela line in the NE with about 40 million potential riders along the line. Any others in the US are losing money as are most in Europe and Japan. If anything, we should expand and improve our FREIGHT lines.

Because helping Americans who need help is a better use of our tax dollars than nation building and propping up foreign empires
Our infrastructure problems go beyond high speed rail......it includes roads, bridges, communications and power grids, water distribution
All are substandard...what you expect when you spend 47 cents on every military dollar in the world
After 7 1/2 years why are they still substandard, when 1 trillion dollars when to shovel ready jobs, that weren't really shovel ready? Liberals are as dumb as the Radical Left Wing Islamic Fundamentalist Terrorists.

It was around $300 billion that went to short term shovel ready jobs. By definition, shovel ready is not a major infrastructure investment

PLEASE show us all the definition that says "shovel-ready" is NOT a major infrastructure investment.

Here are a couple I came across in a cursory search.

Shovel ready

As you know, the vast majority of roads, bridges, and water distribution are all LOCAL matters. Yes, our power grid is extremely vulnerable to a terrorist attack. What has Lame Duck President Obama proposed for our power grid?

Doesn't matter if it is state, local or federal...it is still tax dollars going overseas

Federal money has always "trickled down" to help pay for major infrastructure improvements in the form of grants

Our power grid is ancient and inefficient. Beyond being vulnerable, it lacks the backups and efficient re routing around breakages

So now we have reached a point where it doesn't matter where the tax payers money comes from? Amusing.

Here in Tallahassee, Florida, we have added a major new road joining two northern areas of the county and cutting a great deal of time between the two areas. It was financed by bonds and has a nominal toll to pay for the construction.

Our Capital Circle, originally a truck route running around 3/4th of the outskirts of the city. It was two lanes and has been enlarged to a 4 lane divided lighted highway. It is a Federal Highway. A major subdivision is being built in the SE section of the CC. Florida has a concurrency law that requires developers, in other words, the homeowners in that area, to pay for the needed infrastructure. That massive (for us) cost has been paid for by bonds. Those bonds are being paid from monthly payments by the homeowners of that area to our tax collector over the next 15 years.

Florida is fiscally sound including our government retirement plan, one of the few in the nation. Leon County is a progressive county as the state capital and two universities, a major community college and a major technical school. Yet our state has a Republican governor, house, and senate.

You failed to answer a question I posed. Let me post it again for your convenience.

I do support everything you posted except for one trivial detail.

Lame Duck President Barack Hussein Obama promised to fundamentally transform America...and, of that, he has been infinitely successful. We have DOUBLED our DEBT. A lower worker participation rate than any time since the '70's, higher rate of people living in poverty, more on food stamps, higher rate of those on welfare and he is the first president in our HISTORY who never had a GDP of more than 3%. So he was right about that.

Shovel ready was a requirement for states to receive funding for infrastructure improvements. By definition, the project needed to be ready to hire workers. Since smaller infrastructure projects are easier to fast track, most of the shovel ready projects tended to be smaller scale infrastructure

yes absolutely, if half or more have no skin in the game they are always encouraged to use voting merely as a means to steal money from those who do pay taxes.

That is a treasonous subversive liberal use of government.

You can't be against both a living wage, and government assistance for those who don't make a living wage. The alternative is to NOT LIVE.

Why is someone entitled to a "living wage", if they CHOSE, basically, to be a loser?

What do you consider to be a "living wage".

Benjamin Franklin

November 27-29 1766

“I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty but leading or driving them out of it. In my youth I traveled much, I observed in different countries that the more public provision were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And on the contrary, the less was done for them the more they did for themselves and became richer.”

Wow. A whole passel of right wing talking points. Makes it possible to post without knowing anything at all, eh.
Lets take your talking points, me boy. 1. He did not double the national debt. The fact that it increased greatly was due to the Great Republican Recession of 2008. You see, debt does not occur by spending only. It also decreases when revenues decrease. And when people are unemployed, they do not pay taxes. Funny thing is, Reagan nearly TRIPLED the national debt, but cons never mention that. And the only recession was one he created. So, no, this one is not on obama. It is, me boy, on the republicans.
2. Low participation rate is not a problem, me boy. People do not have to work to get insurance any more, and many have chosen not to. And, even more importantly, the baby boomers are retiring. So, they do not work. Reading would help you to understand.
3. Higher rate of people living in poverty - numerous things, most importantly the Great Republican Recession of 2008. But additionally, the return saw most profits go to the wealthy, nearly nothing to middle class and lower.
4. Any rational person would expect food stamp participation to increase a good deal as a result of the great republican recession of 2008. It went up in 2009 through 2013, and has been decreasing since. It is amazing what you can find out if you are interested in truth.
5. Welfare spending was extremely high in 2008 and 2009, and went up like a rocket as the Great Republican Recession raged, but dropped like a rock from 2010 on, until now it is lower than at any time since the 1970's. Really, spouting talking points can be dangerous. The truth, however, will set you free.
6. The fact is, the rate of gnp growth has not been over 3% but it was in the W presidency. Now, we all know that recessions cause reductions in GNP. Always. But on the other hand, if you have high inflation and 3% GNP growth for a few years, we all lose. And under obama, inflation has been low. So net real appreciation of assets has been good.

So, there you go. Relying on talking points is not a good idea.

When obama took office the national debt was $10.6B. To double it will need to reach $21.2B. And that is with the Great Republican Recession, which added about $6B. The current debt is not 19.3B It is a little beyond $18.2B. It is not projected to reach $20B. More like $19.4B based on CBO estimates.

The US National Debt Clock is a well known conservative web site. Not accurate, me boy.
Perhaps you need to take a remedial math class. THERE IS NO WAY THE NATIONAL DEBT IS GOING TO DOUBLE UNDER OBAMA. ANOTHER CON TOOL MYTH DEBUNKED. Really, you should not rely on conservative talking points. They are ALWAYS wrong. (technically called word salad)

How about executing criminals who raped, murdered or child molested? Cant make the same mistakes 30 years ago because you liberals are so sure of science that forensic medicine can prove who did what. Then if you have a rap sheet a mile long since you cannot be corrected for society you also will be removed from it. All the rest of the liberal criminals, send to Turkey, pay the Turks to take care of the thugs, and within 1 year those liberals would be converted into law abiding citizens never hoping again to break the law. Instead the liberals have created a business call prison system, where the liberals employ liberals to farm food, farm clothes, provide legal aid, and allow prostitution to make the liberals uber rich from out tax dollars. That is why liberals are so tolerant of criminals and hate the victims the criminals hurt.

How can it be that with the first white black president in office over 7 1/2 years now with the 1st two years of liberal senate and congress, that people would still be in poverty after the promise of HOPE AND CHANGE? I thought that with a socialist utopia, that everyone would be equal, equally happy and equally.... oh wait, let me try the equality again. With liberalism, Everyone will be equally poor and equally miserable, that is called FAIRNESS. Elections have consequences and this low information Obamaphone voter, who thought that the redistribution of wealth was going to make her richer, is too stupid to realize that the Liberals special interest groups(like Solyndra) made millions of dollars and did nothing for her. A very smart woman knows all about liberalism, take a dare and watch a great woman.
