We already have far more advanced carriers than anyone else. And more of them too. But missile tech has advanced to a point that modern carriers are becoming more like sitting ducks.

Well like most changes in military tech, and strategy; well likely have to lose a carrier before anyone wants to invest in new tech. 40 years is a long time for complacency to set in. And in that time we really haven’t had any outright attempts on our blue water vessels. But then again, we’ve spent the last 40 years stomping around 3rd world shitholes. Why are people like you so hard-headed when it come to the ability to process information?

40 years? You do realize that the last time that happened was a little dust-up called World War II and it was about 76 years ago to start.

It is not that we are not developing that technology. You don't build an aircraft carrier with a design to carry drones when you don't have anything close to operational.

The entire idea behind the Zumwalt-class destroyer was a rail gun. Guess what? The thing is too damn expensive to make work! Now, there will be no rail guns and we have three ships that look like something out of science fiction that are really not much better than something that cost about a third of what one of those behemoths cost.

We have been hearing about laser weapons since I was a kid. Are we close to having anything operational that will help defend our ships and take the offense to the enemy? Nope. Not a chance. We are no better off than when the idea first appeared in a science fiction story probably in the late 1800s.

Build what works, but plan on spending money to improve what you have, not spend money on pieces of shit that have little chance of working.

Russia just recently showcased a hypersonic missile that can travel at 10 times the speed of sound. there is just little protection a high value target like an aircraft carrier can call on to defeat such a missile. imagine a missile costing 5 million able to destroy a 5 billion dollar carrier.

It always happens. Build a toy and someone will find a way to break it.

Believe it or not, our navy realizes the vulnerability of a massive aircraft carrier, that's why they always sail with a large escort of ships designed to fight off such attacks. Naval escort ships are heavily armed to fight off missiles and aircraft.

Out dated, as were battleships in WWII. Towed barges would suffice and cost almost nothing in comparison. Piloted planes are outdated, too, so 'military intelligence' will dictate sticking to old ways, just as always.
