Define "assault weapon". And make it more substantive than "a big black gun that looks scary".

I'd like to hear that definition, because I have no idea what an "assault weapon" is, other than a redundancy. I mean, is there another sort of weapon? A massage weapon, a tickle weapon, a dandelion-fluff-wafting-on-the-breeze weapon? Any weapon is, by the fact of being a weapon, intended for assault.
