going to answer the post or just stick to baseless ad hominem?

YOU are a fool. They will target anyone who seems suspicious. and obscuring your appearance by keeping your hoodie on when going through security is a SURE way to get special screening treatment :)

itis not people going through security. the person was obviously outside the place on the other side of the fence through from the airplanes

Care to show me an official TSA policy of targeting people in hoodies? You dishonest moron.

I think the poster was probably not the best way to get the message across. If you're in a public area taking pictures, then there should be no issue. If you attempt to get into an area that is not open to the public, then there's an issue. However, the big question comes up when you are standing on the public side but taking pictures of whatever activity is going on in the area not open to the public. Sinister motives? who knows. However, it makes sense to report that sort of activity to the local authorities so that they can make the determination. I think that's what the intended message was all about.

Experienced the same thing with military airfields. If you're in the US and take pictures of what's going on at the tarmac, the military police will confront you and at worst escort you off the military installation. If you're overseas and are taking pictures, it will probably be some grunt. The difference is that the grunt doesn't stop to advise you of your rights or any of that chickenshit nonsense. They're going to remove you from the area and take you to wherever it is they were told to take you. That's when the spooks from the intel side of the house get involved, film or memory disks get confiscated and the whole thing becomes very academic. Other nations understand this and go through the motions of initiating diplomatic protests, blah, blah, blah.

I look at this as fair warning to those of you who would wear hoodies, stand close to the fence at a US airport and aim cameras towards the tarmac. If you want to martyr yourselves to prove a constitutional point, go right ahead. Your rights are not going to be violated, but you will be questioned in accordance with police procedures that are guided by those constitutional rights. Just be glad that you didn't do it at a US military installation overseas.

LOL sorry buy in a post 9/11 World. Hanging around outside an Airport taking pictures in a hoodie is suspicious. They must error on the side of caution IMO.

Why? Can you point to a single attack that was based on someone taking pictures, or is that just something that law and order types try to scare me with?

No I can't so are you saying we should only defend against attacks we have seen before, or maybe we should try and stop ones we have not thought of yet.

Most attacks were however preceded by RECON missions. In fact more than a couple of the attacks we have stopped since 9/11 were indeed stopped by catching them while they were still doing Recon and planning.

The terrorist have made it very clear they are still looking to target our air travel system, therefore Airports will always be watched very closely.

No, I am saying we should not hassle innocent people, period. Until someone actually kills someone with a camera I am going to think of it as a device for taking pictures, not a weapon.

Would you like some pictures of La Guardia or O'Hare? They are easliy available online with minimal effort, complete with maps and aerial views, as well as street views of the terminals. How is hassling a kid who likes to take pictures of planes going to keep us safer?

How incredibly Naive of you. The Camera is not a weapon it is a tool to gather intel on a target, and has been used as such on many occasions both by Terrorist and Military's, add to that the guy is wearing a hoodie and you have at least reasonable suspicion to check the dude out. Franky I rather have a few innocent people hassled for a bit than another successful Major attack on our shores.

Pointing out that we have a constitutional right to take pictures is naive? YOu admit that you cannot point to a single example of an attack that was planned in advance and used pictures taken on site as part of that plan, yet you still expect me to condone an attitude that it is dangerous. It is 15 below outside, and the guy is there taking a picture, and you want me to condone hassling him because he is trying to stay warm.

Remember the words of Ben Franklin if you care to continue responding to me on this subject.
Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

Maybe I am naive, but I also take pictures and do not want to get hassled for exercising my constitutional right to do so, any more than you want to get hassled for exercising your constitutional right not to buy health insurance.

No pretending that we would never stop a potential attack by asking some questions to a person in a hoodie taking pics of an airport. Is Naive. The 9/11 attackers Did recon you know. Read the story they asked some questions detained for a bit and let them go. Hardly the same as taking away their constitution right to take some pictures.

TSA Campaign Targets Photographers in Hoodies | Threat Level | Wired.com

This is a Threat Level article, and it talks about how the TSA is targeting photographers in a new poster. No one was detained, or released, it is nothing but propaganda. The article even includes a semi-official from the official TSA blogger, and an acknowledgment that the TSA should actually encourage photographers because they tend to be more observant.
