The "TRUE" problem with this whole health care issue...

The key issue here is...

We are the wealthiest nation on the planet.
We are the only industrialized nation that does not ensure healthcare for all its citizens.
We rank 37th in the quality of healthcare
We allow people to go broke just because they get sick
We have 47 million uninsured

Other nations look at us and wonder

Why should we care what other nations "wonder" about when it comes to domestic policy?

This is a non-partisan thread, Willow, please?

oh really? how can you tell?
Because that's what I wanted my thread to be.

Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for Willow to not be a partisan hack. :eusa_whistle:

As for OP: I would consider this current issue more of a moral issue than legal one that has both social and economic implications if left unchecked.

It's wasn't impossible for the camel to walk through the eye of the needle.

You missed the point Zander. We don't have to care what other nations think about our domestic policy. However, we should care when it comes down to the basic statistics that's ours are inferior to another country's.

I demand you apologize to the world for that remark.

Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness

Socialist nonsense!
That doesn't even implicitly allow for health care to be a "right."

I wouldn't go as far as to say it's a luxury, aka "Be damned grateful and lucky ya'll got somfin!"

But I don't recognize it as a human right either.

I don't consider it a human right, but that doesn't mean it's bad public policy.

I'd have to say I agree. The problem with this line of thinking is that you can't have a right to something that somebody else has to provide.

Doctors & nurses take an oath of servitude to the sick & injured regardless of their ability to pay.

So for some of you to assume that we are just going to leave an injured or sick person on the side of the road & say screw them--they don't have medical insurance--you are wrong.

We ALL end up paying for the uninsured in this country. Our hospitals emergency rooms are full of the uninsured who go there from everything to sore throats, to heart attacks.

So--the ONE thing I agree with on this plan--is that everyone will be REQUIRED to have medical insurance, & if they do not have it-- they will be fined. It's about time this happened. I am sick & tired of paying more in my medical insurance premiums to cover the uninsured--& at the same time watch our state & federal deficits rise because of the uninsured in this country.
