The train is coming...

Just think

At this time, four years ago, they had John McCain.....distinguished war hero, veteran Senator

Now .....they have nothing close to a John McCain
I thought that at this point in 2007 they had Rudy Guilliani famous mayor and man about town. Then he dithered and campaigned poorly and allowed Mitt Romney, famous Mormon who could not pass muster with the "Religious" Right to come to the forefront.

Then they dabbled in Mike Huckabee, famous weight loss expert and loose cannon.

After all the others shot themselves in the political foot, the had John McCain thrust upon them by the Democrats (despite the fact that the Democratic nominee was not a settled affair as late as April of 2008).

Republicans love the old reliables.....

They will go through the motions and end up with Romney or Huckabee

Still can't figure out how they managed to blame the Democrats because they selected John McCain.....But hey....they are Republicans

the democrats control the lame stream media, which, btw no one is actually watching, and the lame stream media selected mccain.

I agree with your first point there about the Democrats controlling the "lame stream media", but need to ask, if no one is watching the "lame stream media" then how on earth did the "lame stream media" choose McCain for the Republicans? One would assume that you mean that the media favored McCain over the other candidates and tricked Republicans into believing that he was a worthy candidate, but if no one was watching, how did they accomplish that? ;)

don't ask me, my brain can't handle the dissonance. i was just reporting.

If you listen closely, you can hear it in the distance. If you put your ear to the ground you can hear it even better. If you look closely, there is a dim light that shows the end of the tunnel is getting closer. You can feel the ground begin to shake just a little. The train is coming... Just think, Obama has less time left in office than he has already served. THANK GOD.

You mean we're on the downhill slide? Yes, thank god.

Lot of tongue wagging going on here... Mickey Mouse could run against Obama and get elected President. I can't believe the large number of "intelligent" people on this board who remain Obama robots. I don't have a clue who the Republicans will run on the ticket but I bet you a dollar to a donut that whoever they run is going to beat the pants off of Obama. He's a one-term President and America will be better off puking this looser out of it's system.

Yup..

Its called the Second Term Train

Republicans can't even get a candidate on track

.. at this time last cycle, they were jumping in by the droves. It's pretty bad when they were already getting in at this time on the Republican side after arguably one of the worst Republican presidencies ever, but are seem to be seeing who can get in last this time around.. What're they scared of? Surely not the evil socialist that Americans hate and can't wait to rid themselves of.. :eusa_whistle:

I remember that.. I sure do,, and you assholes mocked John McCain because he was white, he was old, he had cancer on his face.. yep,, I remember that,, "being a war hero doesn't make you good presidential material" youse guys spouted out yer ass... and look what you gave us?? a clusterfuck that's what. :cuckoo::cuckoo::cuckoo::cuckoo:

Let me don the turban formerly worn by Carnac.

Here's what's going to happen: The Republicans will field a number of candidates. Some moderate, some more radicalized by Tea Party ideology. The more moderate Republicans will get booted from the scene by the same tactics that swamped town hall meetings two summers ago. Remember how those Tea Party types embraced open debate and a fair exchange of ideas? Watch them fire themselves into a frenzied mob whenever Republican candidates gather for debates.

That will leave only the most radicalized, polarizing candidates to vie for the nomination. By the time the Republican convention rolls around, the GOP nominee will have such a ponderous record of divisive positions he will not be viable in a general election. Not everybody in this country has the extreme, reactionary views expressed on talk radio and by wingnuts on internet message boards.

Then, by November, the electorate will see the eventual Republican nominee as a lunatic whose views are too extreme to be accepted.

Thus, the Republicans will lose control of their own party. The Tea Party will form and divide any hope anyone even slightly on the right wing has and split the Conservative movement. Social Conservatives will put up a harrow template whereby only the most ideologically pure can be considered. The old school Republicans will push for one of their favorite sons instead of cultivating young candidates for national office and the Democrats will be the only political organization capable of running a national campaign.

I don't think it's quite that easy but yes, Obama will have a MUCH harder time getting people to the polls if UE is in the dumps and we are still in 3 wars...

Obama would make a great European leader. He's a total failure for the US:

Express.co.uk - Home of the Daily and Sunday Express | Express Yourself :: Barack Obama: The Weakest President in history?

Face it, we haven't had a real president in years. They are figureheads, controlled by the elite. If they were American Presidents, we wouldn't have so many illegals and our income gap would be much, much smaller and our jobs wouldn't have been shipped overseas.

The economy is improving and the GOP has the worst field in a generation

I really hope the GOP runs on anybody can beat Obama. Especially when that anybody gets saddled with a Tea Party agenda

Not when they see what the alternatives are. People see what the apathy in the 2010 elections has brought the country (in the form of WI, FL and OH governors) and are realizing that it's time to get off the crazy train the Republicans are driving (with the Tea Baggers throwing things from the back seat).

As one of those fighting with the unemployed to get my resume read as one of 250 for 1 job, who is also pondering the thought of losing my house if things don't turn around, I don't need to pull numbers out of Obama's ass. I simply need to say, maybe things seem to be pretty as pink from your neck of the woods, but when you are looking up from the depths, it looks like sewage to me.

I'm sure it does. My son was unemployed for a year and recently got rehired with his old firm. The numbers are the numbers. Regardless of how you look at them, we are in better shape economically.
Keep your chin up, the numbers are at least positive now and creeping upward.

People keep telling me, "things are bound to get better". I'm beginning to think I'm being lied to. :D

The numbers are positive? Well, maybe they are and maybe they aren't. These are numbers reported to us by the government. I'm no longer confident that the government will give honest reports. Note: that has nothing to do with which party is in control as that feeling started long before our current President took office.

All in all, I realize that the economy operates in cycles and eventually things will turn around, but the way things look right now, I am not certain I can out last it. Even the unemployment numbers are not sufficient to turn things around. Even if we were at 96% employment, there would still be issues to deal with. Housing for instance. My brother wants to sell his home. He can't sell it because of all the foreclosures on the market. The banks are discounting those homes so severely that he can't compete. I am afraid that it is going to take years if not decades for that issue to resolve itself.

Unemployment is not our only problem and quite frankly, I see things getting much worse before they get better. I pray to God, I am wrong on that.

One thing that really worries me is the push for Universal Health Care and a Single Payer System. Please don't get me wrong, I believe everyone who wants health insurance should be able to get it.

But, I am very worried about the proposals to start a Single Payer System in this country and here is why. There are hundreds of thousands of people employed in the health insurance business. On top of that there are God knows millions more who are dependent upon the Health Insurance industry. I seem to be the only one even considering the idea that if a SPS is instituted in this country that those millions of people will find themselves without jobs.

I wish to hell that someone who was for an SPS could convince me that this is not going to happen, but so far no one has.

I grew up with Kaiser Permanente Health Care. If an SPS could be run like that, I would be all for it. Unfortunately, from every thing I have ever read about an SPS, the only change will be that there will suddenly only be one health insurance company. That one health insurance company will be the U.S. Government. That one health insurance company will be funded by taxes in one way or another either by private individuals or the employers they work for. That being the case, the Health Insurance Industry will be DOA the moment the bill is signed and takes effect. That being said, those millions upon millions of employees will be on the unemployment line. Now we are talking 25% unemployment numbers as compared to 8.8% unemployment.

This really scares me. Maybe I am wrong, but that is how I see the future under an SPS and if that happens, the economy will be in tatters.
