How much do you pay in rent, food and health care monthly. Add on to that about $6,000 - $7,000 for a tax "refund" check the government gives them at the end of the year.

Actually they have to pay 30% of their income for rent, and food stamps don't generally cover all the food they need. Then there's also the cost of transportation, which generally isn't free. Clothes for the kids. It all adds up.
