They need the poor to remain poor, so they can promise to help them over and over again and gain their votes. By the way, do you have a link to this?

Isn't Ahnald a Republican?

How's california doin'?

Now, are you done with the sad partisan hackery? Are you ready to discuss real solutions?

What's Ahnold have to do with it?
Or California?
None of those cities are in California.
Proof that while the state is an economic cluster fuck, it's because of out of control spending by the State...not cities abilities to generate revenue.
Ahnold did screw up. He let the Democrat controlled legislature run wild vs. stomping on their necks.

California was trashed years ago. Arnie has not helped the situation any as he did not reign in the spending either.

Its more complicated I think.

Many of those towns have no industry at all, and they elected progressives who promise perks & jobs which never materialize.

So you do not find it revealing and quite possibly statistical proof that more liberal/democratic fiscal policies, and possibly social policies, do little to nothing to help the poor rise out of being poor?

Many say the GOP does nothing for the poor...and the Democraticv party is all about helping the poor.

These statistcis, to me, show how democratic policies may asisst the poor at surviving being poor...but in no way helps them rise out of being poor.

Actually, and interestingly, they are cities with unionized industry....at least Detroit, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Cleveland and Milwaukee are for sure......and I would not be surprised if most of the others are as well.

Considering California's problems are because the STate has been run by Democrats for ever his point is completely ignorant.

Another thread to bash Democrats instead of discussing meaningful solutions to this problem? Never mind. I had forgotten for a moment this was USMB.

Ignorant....or simply diverting from a satistic that is revealing and damning.
If the GOP were smart, and I fear they are not, they would get these numbers out there as loudly as they can.
It supports their theory that democratic policies do not help the poor rise out of being poor...they simply help them be poor.

you can not fix a problem without first identifyiong the problem.

These stats may have helped identify the problem....it is not a party issue...it is a policy issue....

And maybe...just maybe...those policies of "help the poor" are not actually helping the poor.

Unfortunately, the democrats refuse to recognize it.

Well...HERE IT IS......RECOGNIZE IT

Except red states get more money back for every dollar they give in taxes. So I wouldn't go running around quite yet Paul Revere.

then the Republicans keep their 'free trade' going, outsourcing jobs like the auto industry (surprise! Detroit's number one)

If you truly believe the Democrats are the only factor in this, then you are not only ignorant of reality but current events.

Detroit lost large parts of it's auto industry. Cincinnati, Cleveland, St. Louis, and I think El Paso are all big manufacturing places. Same thing with Milwaukee.

Miami has lost a great deal of revenue due to the economic downturn. Same with Philly.

There are other factors other than the fact they haven't had Republican mayors in whatever time period.

Seriously though, I think it's hilarious that the Republicans or "Independents" in this thread are trying to bash the Democrats and blame Detroit on them. Ignorant of reality much?
