There's one reason above all others that President Obama uses a teleprompter in delivering most of his speeches: he's good at it.

Ronald Reagan was the same way. He was more at ease in reading his speech off the dual screens of a teleprompter than looking up and down at a speech text on his lectern

Not so, George W. Bush. He often got that nervous, deer-in-the-headlights look when giving an address from a teleprompter. He would seem stiff and ill-at-ease. He did not convey a sense of understanding.

"He preferred using large index cards," said his one-time White House Press Secretary Ari Fleisher, "plus I think he was just more comfortable with the cards."

The only thing more humerous that anyone not thinking that it's a common practice is that some folks think Reagan actually spoke off the cuff rather than carefully crafted scripts.

That's great, but Reagan didn't read the same speech over and over every year. Obama's writers are so lazy that they just recycle the same words in every speech. It would be comical if the job wasn't so serious.

I think it is truly bizarre for the POTUS to use almost the identical words in his State of the Union Address from one year to the next.

This speech is a Constitutional requirement, and I would hope he could do better than Xerox the previous year's speech.

2010 State of the Union Address.

2011 State of the Union Address.

2012 State of the Union Address.

2011: "At stake is whether new jobs and industries take root in this country, or somewhere else. It's whether the hard work and industry of our people is rewarded."

2012: "An economy built to last, where hard work pays off and responsibility is rewarded."

2011: "So I say to this chamber tonight, instead of re-fighting the battles of the last two years, let's fix what needs fixing and let's move forward."

2012: "Tonight, I want to speak about how we move forward"

2010: "And we should continue the work of fixing our broken immigration system"

2011: "Now, I strongly believe that we should take on, once and for all, the issue of illegal immigration."

2012: "I believe as strongly as ever that we should take on illegal immigration."

2011: "And let's stop expelling talented, responsible young people who could be staffing our research labs or starting a new business, who could be further enriching this nation. "

2012: "But if election-year politics keeps Congress from acting on a comprehensive plan, let's at least agree to stop expelling responsible young people who want to staff our labs, start new businesses, and defend this country."

2011: "We'll put more Americans to work repairing crumbling roads and bridges."

2012: "So much of America needs to be rebuilt. We've got crumbling roads and bridges."

I don't know. Any previous President do this? I seem to remember Reagan repeatedly asking for the line-item veto.

Saul Alinsky is the best friend Obama ever had.

Attack his strengths. It worked in 2008. But, this time, you have a much better guy to run against him. have fun with that.

That's not the only Difference. Obama does not get to Pretend to be something he is not this time. He has to win, with his record, and an electorate that knows exactly who he is, and what he wants this time around.

If the Republican Party had it's shit even partially together this election would be a cake walk, and Obama would stand no chance at all.

To bad they don't.

lol

I agree Reagan was a much smoother speaker and smoother presenter. He was however a professional trained actor. Which is a professional liar. Great roots for a politician, harder to tell when they lie. I could always spot Bush lying.

Saul Alinsky is the best mentor Freedom Works and the Tea Party has. Unlike your statement Freedom Works has admitted to it while yours is speculation. Or better put I have Facts, You have Unfacts

I dont deal with lies...but apparently you only dislike socialism Saul Alinsky when you think Obama does it. Freedom Works admits it and suddenly you ran out of outrage juice. :eusa_boohoo: yeah, you're outraged :eusa_boohoo:

SO. Obama beat McCain, and McCain beat Romney; but somehow Romney is going to beat Obama? I'm not seeing the logic.

Well considering times change, and Elections don't happen in a vacuum where only the last Election Matters, I think it is safe to say your Logic is flawed. Just Because Obama was able to pretend to be a conservative Democrat and beat McCain, who beat Romney, does not in any way mean Obama is a sure bet this time around to beat Romney.

Hope and Change, and I'll be Bipartisan and Transparent are not going to be enough this time around. Obama has to Defend his record, Explain why he turned out to be so different than he sold him self as, and actually Articulate, why despite his Failure to live up to so many Promises and Standards he set, we should give him another shot.

All Romney has to do is make people believe he would be more Competent on the Economy than Obama and Obama is Toast.

Despite the Sorry state of the Republican Party that is the Case. Not that I am saying Obama is going to lose, he has way to much money, to many Allies in the Media, and to many Lemmings foaming at the Mouth and raising their hands in lock step with him, to count him out just yet. The Way Die Hard Obama supporters can ignore so many things the man does and still defend him reminds me of a song and dance the world has seen time and time again.

The Cult of Personality you know, it can make even the most Ineffective, and frankly Terrible Leader, the Stuff of legend.
