Gotcha! Tourists catch alleged thief on camera - Travel - News - msnbc.com
MADISON, Wis. — The camera of a vacationing New Jersey family who posed for a picture in front of the Wisconsin State Capitol captured more than smiles. It also caught an alleged thief in the act.

John Myers, of Bloomfield, N.J., set the self-timer on his camera and hustled into the frame with his wife and two children Saturday. While their backs were turned, someone grabbed their bag.

After Myers discovered the bag missing, he checked his camera. Sure enough, the image showed a man picking up the bag.

"I thought, oh great, now I'm just going to have this picture of an anonymous person who took my bag, but never get it back," Myers said.

But the bag contained Myers' wallet, ID and credit cards, among other items, so he showed his photo to the Capitol Police. Officers recognized the man, and a few minutes later, arrested Glenn Lambright, 59.

When officers found him, he was still carrying the bag, which was returned to Myers.

Several months ago, I had this guy who was charged with stealing a set of surveillance cameras that a homeowner had put up on his house and his garage. The cameras were pretty expensive.

Anyway, my client was not aware that surveillance cameras store their images on disks that are remote from the cameras themselves, in this case, inside the house. He got the cameras all right, but the disks remained. One of the disks shows my client, eyeing the camera from a distance, then walking up to it, then getting very close to it as he is unfastening it from the side of the house. His entire face fills the screen, in perfect focus.

You know those pictures of big, old dogs, with their noses plastered up against the camera lens? This was one of those shots.

And, of course, the homeowner knew my client, who lived in the neighborhood.

Game over.

I loved this one, true story. He thought he was going to get away clean in the dark. He just couldnt figure out how the cops were tracking his every move.

Word of advice. Don't try to escape in dark with shoes that light as you run.

This happened some years back at the Grand Casino, in Gulfport, MS. Casino do sometimes get held up by armed robbers. Usually that is a really dumb idea for the robbers, after all, bunches of camera will get excellent pictures of you from different angles. So here is the story:

The robbers entered the casino and didn't put on the ski masks until they were already inside. So the camera got lots of great shots of their faces.

ALL of the robbers were employees of the casino. Yep, their faces, names, addresses, cars, etc were all on file with casino security. :cuckoo:

They used one of their own cars for the getaway.

After the robbery, they went directly to one of their residences to divide the loot.

Police arrived within minutes.

HERE IS ANOTHER:

It happened at the Grand in Biloxi, MS.

Casinos may compete with each other, but their security departments cooperate very well. They are also data linked with the police and FBI.

A guy robbed a bank. The next day, still wearing the same clothes, he went to the casino to play blackjack. Within minutes security had made him and called police. You might say he was busted at blackjack.

AND ANOTHER:

I personally knew this guy, although I didn't know the story until after it all happened.

Somewhere up in the Carolinas he pulled off a huge drug & money theft. He stole an 18-wheeler full of marijuana and the money for it at the same time. Wisely, he decided it was time to dissappear and assume a new name somewhere else.

So he went to Biloxi, MS and began to play poker regularly at the Biloxi Grand. I met him at the poker tables while he was using the alias "Johnny Walker". At the time I was making my living playing poker.

There were not many legal poker rooms in the South, so it was inevetable that sooner or later somebody from his home area would see him in the poker room. If you are on the run, hiding out at a tourist attraction isn't the best place to hide.

Fortunately for him, the person that spotted him turned him in to the FBI, instead of to his "friends" back home.

The FBI arrested him while he was playing poker. When they IDed themselves he said, "I'll come quietly. Just let me finish this hand of poker." They allowed it, and he left quietly.

We were sad to see him go. He was a fun guy and lost money, lots of it, at poker.

ya Know
Its damn funny how the Pigs like to twist things to
make their own self look good, thats how the Capitol of WI
are...Lambright made an attempt to turn this "bag" over to proper
authorities and they thanked him by arresting him and charging him
with theft. Treated him like a criminal, Had he not grabbed a carelessly
placed bag of valuables, a criminal homeless crackhead would have and ran
up the street.Madison ,being the crack cap of Southern WI.makes it overpossible
