The Solution to Poverty...A Guaranteed Annual Wage?

Proof? Sure. The government conducted a study, 1971-1978 known as the Seattle-Denver Income Maintenance Experiment, or SIME-DIME, in which low income families were give a guaranteed income, a
So...what's changed in the last 40 years?
Is this really the best you can manage?
I'll bet it is.

"When Nixon came to office, he appointed Donald Rumsfeld to head the poverty programme, and Rumsfeld brought along an assistant named Dick Cheney. Robert Levine, one of the original experimenters who went on to work for the Rand Corporation, credits Rumsfeld for saving the poverty programme by shifting them in a republican direction, towards 'experimentation rather than action' (Levine et al. 2005: 98)."

Guess you swallowed Dick's and Rummy's lies about WMD too?

it s all one thing Basic Income Mincome vs. SIME DIME

Guess you swallowed the Democrats lies about WMDs too. They are there! No, wait, they aren't, we were lied to! It wasn't us, it was THEM...

Yeah, liars and the fools who believe them

Rich Democrats lied about WMDs just like Rich Dick and Rich Rummy but I didn't believe either wing of the War Party or profit from their lies.

Iraq isn't an issue to you. If it were, you'd attack both sides for their "lies." That you attack one shows again you're a partisan shill and your cause is socialism. Iraq is just fodder to you, that's all. No morality at all

Did anyone realize when you were born in this country that meant you had to work not only to take of your family. BUT EVERYONE else they deem as living in "poverty"

the thing with Socialism....they always run out of OTHER peoples monies Eventually.

then we will need to lock and load

Been there.
Done that.
Tell me when you last voted for a Republican OR Democrat presidential candidate?

I voted for Romney in 2012. Obama being an actual Marxist rather than just running as one like the other Democrats did was enough to get me to vote for "other." Before that it was HW in 1988.

Not sure what this has to do with anything in the discussion. I keep arguing with Republicans that we should not be in the middle east and Democrats that you are disingenuous in rewriting history. You just argue with Republicans that they lied, which is the Democrat lie.

Republicans did not lie us into the war. They believed everything they said. They still stand behind it. It was just bad policy. We need to stop getting in everyone's shit. But they did not lie, they were wrong.

Democrats did not lie us into the war either. They believed everything they said. Then they committed the actual lie regarding the war. Democrats lied that you were lied to. But hey, if it helps you get socialism, all is good, right?

Just stop pretending Iraq matters to you, that you repeat a lie and protect liars shows it is not. My position doesn't shift like yours based on the party involved in the discussion

Tea-Party types and Occupiers should be able to agree the US has reached a point where advances in automation have made "...the need for human labor obsolete in many cases."

There is an old idea to this problem that even Dick Nixon and George McGovern agreed to support in their '72 presidential contest, and Dick and George didn't agree on much that year.

Martin King also found the idea workable:

"In 1967, Martin Luther King Jr. said, 'The solution to poverty is to abolish it directly by a now widely discussed measure: the guaranteed income.' Richard Nixon unsuccessfully tried to pass a version of Friedman’s plan a few years later, and his Democratic opponent in the 1972 presidential election, George McGovern, also suggested a guaranteed annual income."

In 2012 there were 179 million Americans between 21 and 65 (when SS would take over). The poverty line was $11,945. This means giving each American an income equal to the poverty line would cost $2.14 trillion.

Cutting all federal and state benefits for eligible Americans would save about $1 trillion a year.

So, what happens when it is blown on drugs and porn?

Will we still need a welfare system, or, let them die, like they would in most parts of the world if they can't earn their keep?

You're accusing me of supporting Democrats when they lie while criticizing Republicans for their untruths, yet I haven't wasted a presidential vote of mine on either of the Rich Man's parties in over forty years. Elected Democrats AND Republicans lied the US into an illegal invasion of Iraq in 2003, and I've consistently criticized members of both sets of elites.

Yes, and you want Republicans to pay for that

I've consistently criticized members of both sets of elites.

I see what you are saying. Sweeping statements both sides are responsible is pretty much treating Democrats the same as your endless specific posts attacking only Republicans. Tom-ay-to Tom-ah-to

The current system of 79 means-tested welfare programs would be abolished, and the GAI would take their place until recipients become eligible for SS. This may be an idea whose time has come precisely because the US economy has been automated to such an extent there aren't enough jobs being produced for everyone to earn their keep.

100% stupid and 1000% liberal. The wheel, nail, screw, and electricity, etc replaced billions of jobs and we still have full employment in America.

Liberalism is based in pure 100% ignorance. No other conclusion is possible.
