And the Democrats, in power since '06 and in total control since '08, have done what about it?

Reality bites for Obamanomics ... just sayin

If the same percentage of adults were in the workforce today as when Barack Obama took office, the unemployment rate would be 11.1 percent. If the percentage was where it was when George W. Bush took office, the unemployment rate would be 13.1 percent.
How dare those Boomers retire! Don't they know they must stay in the workforce till they drop dead from exhaustion so people who hate America can claim the unemployment rate is higher.

What's up streeeeeeeeeeeeeeeetch...
If the same percentage of adults were in the workforce today as when Obama took office, no Boomers would have retired, no one would have gotten married and stayed home to take care of the children, etc. It is moronic and dishonest to say that all adults must stay in the workforce until they die. In a free country people are free to leave the workforce.

The CON$erviNutzi paradigm has been that the person who was president from 2007 on was powerless and the Dems controlled the world. So why does it suddenly matter who was president 5 years ago?????

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- There are far more jobless people in the United States than you might think.

While it's true that the unemployment rate is falling, that doesn't include the millions of nonworking adults who aren't even looking for a job anymore. And hiring isn't strong enough to keep up with population growth.

PrintComment
As a result, the labor force is now at its smallest size since the 1980s when compared to the broader working age population.

"We've been getting some job growth and it's been significant, but it hasn't yet been strong enough that you start to get people re-engaging in the labor market," said Keith Hall, a senior research fellow at the Mercatus Center and former commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Job market dropouts
A person is counted as part of the labor force if they have a job or have looked for one in the last four weeks. As of April, only 63.6% of Americans over the age of 16 fell into that category, according to the Labor Department. That's the lowest labor force participation rate since 1981.

It's a worrisome sign for the economy and partly explains why the unemployment rate has been falling recently. Only people looking for work are considered officially unemployed.

The 86 million invisible unemployed - May. 3, 2012
82 million of whom do not want a job!!!

If the author of that article really wanted to know the breakdown of the quite visible unemployed, the BLS provides that data for all who want to know. But CNN, the Conservative News Network, obviously couldn't care about anything other than shilling for the GOP.

The discouraged workers the shill implies are in such great numbers are less than a million and declining!!!! But that doesn't help the GOP so the shill plays dumb like a good little CON$erviNutzi. Now the lying shill Hall was a commissioner for the BLS so it is impossible for him NOT to know about the below BLS link enumerates why they are not in the labor force and exactly how many are "disengaged" like Everett!!!!!

From your link:

Last year there were 86 million people who didn't have a job and weren't consistently looking for one, according to Labor Department data.
Older people, ages 65 and over, account for more than a third. Young people between 16 and 24 make up another fifth. More than half don't have a college degree and more than two thirds are white.
Many of the teens and 20-somethings may be enrolled in either high school or college full-time. And many of the over 65 crowd are probably retired.
But what about the other 36 million folks who fall in between?
The truth is, the Labor Department simply doesn't know why they're not in the labor force. Many may be staying home with children or other relatives. Some may have gone back to school or retraining programs. Others could be disabled and unable to work, and some may have retired early.
"Even in the best of times, there are millions of people who don't want to work for a variety for reasons," Hall said.
But he suspects the number of "disengaged" Americans, like Everett, is higher than usual as a direct result of the recession.

If the same percentage of adults were in the workforce today as when Barack Obama took office, the unemployment rate would be 11.1 percent. If the percentage was where it was when George W. Bush took office, the unemployment rate would be 13.1 percent.

That helps explain a seeming contradiction in the unemployment numbers — the rate keeps dropping even though job creation has been soft.

In April, the U.S. economy added a mere 115,000 jobs, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics data released Friday. In a normal month, that would not even be enough to keep up with new entrants into the labor market. But in this economy, it was enough to drive unemployment from 8.2 percent down to 8.1 percent, the lowest point since January 2009.

The explanation is a little-watched measure known as the “labor force participation rate.” That tracks the number of working-age Americans who are holding a job or looking for one. Between March and April, it dropped by 342,000. But because the official unemployment rate counts only those workers who are actively seeking work, that actually made the unemployment rate go down.

Critics of the Obama administration have been quick to seize on this as the real reason for the falling unemployment rate. In February, the Republican National Committee released a research note on “The Missing Worker,” arguing that “over 3 million unemployed workers have called it quits due to Obamanomics.”

Over the last 3.5 years, Obama has shown no cocnern for the suffering average american. he never sent any of them a check for 15/20K in their time of need,,,,,the hell with the puny 200.00 a week unemployment check,,,with trillions he has pissed off,,,he could of easily sent a check for at least 15K to all americans who made under 50K a year,,,,,instead,,,,where did the money go? anyone know?

Well that's incorrect..but what the heck.

It's the Republicans that are blocking federal, state and municiple hiring. In the last 3 or so years..the public sector saw a loss of 600K jobs. That's firemen, police, teachers, santiation workers..and much more. Under Reagan, Bush I and II..the public sector was hiring.

Solyndra and all the other green companies that contributed to his campaign, heck all his campaign contributors got paid back.

I keep telling these clowns he doesn't give a flying flip about them and they keep defending him. All he cares about is their vote, even if they're dead, as long as they vote for him.

A lot of that so called Stimulus money got into the hands of the unions...to pay teachers, fireman, cops, city workers...All well and good but it was payback to the unions that supported him and are expected to support him again.

Let's be fair on what it was all about.

Obama's Job Czar, Jeffrey Imelt, went on a farming out jobs kick to China with his own company, General Electric, right after he promised Obama he would create jobs in America. What a laugh, RDean.

Just replaying the tape from July 27, 2011, less than a year ago:

July 27, 2011. Beijing. Workers are celebrating in the streets and thanking America’s Jobs Czar for moving so many high-paying, high tech jobs to their communities today. The only problem is, they are Chinese workers throughout China. Jeff Immelt is not only President Obama’s Jobs Czar, he is also the CEO of General Electric. In addition to being the parent company of all the NBC family of broadcasting networks, GE is also one of the largest military contractors in the US.

In 2008, GE CEO Jeff Immelt called China the company’s “second home market”. Today, it might appear the Communist country led by a military dictatorship is General Electric’s new ‘first home’.
Yep, The Chinese are dancing in the streets while the Obama SaveButt Spin team tries to think of something to get America's eye off the jobs market. They're doing it by shape-shifting the numbers to get a new bottom line.

What a bunch of losers.

It's fairly recent that they are moving manufacturing to this country. And it's because they are fearful of tariffs.

Bush wasn't talking about tariffs..and some 50K factories shuddered their doors and moved overseas..when he was in power.
