You have to admit there is a very strong ideological divide in this country, with one side ruling over the majority of state gov (Republican) and the other over the Fed (Democrats).

Look at the divide on issue: gun control, taxation, healthcare, welfare, education, foreign policy, spending, illegal immigration, abortion, gov oversight etc. The sides are so far apart on every issue. Couple that with our debt hitting a head and you gave a ripe situation for conflict!

Unlikely in the senate. As to change the filibuster rule, you've got to deal with filibusters. And 52 senators can't break a filibuster.
