There are many good Christian Catholics out there. I know, I've met them. But just like the Covington kids were thrown under the bus by the elite powers within the Catholic church, the school tried to stick up for them and defend them.

I agree. My accountant being an upstanding citizen. It doesn't seem to me though that the congregation cares about what happens. This horrid stuff has been going on for decades and they still do nothing. At some point, that fault lies with a silent dismissive congregation.

I've seen many leave the Catholic church in protest.

I'm not sure what can be done otherwise to fix the issue, other than pray.

I think the issue though is the same with the US federal government. How can you have such seats of power and prestige and expect them not to succumb to the evils that naturally come as a result? I think the issue is the structure of government as it is in the church. Centralized and unchecked power breeds corruption. That is what needs to be reformed.

I barely recognize evangelical Christianity. I grew up in the southern Baptist convention which is the origin of these "prosperity gospel" mega-churches. It was always a little cultish but how it came to be what it is now escapes me.
