Lori Ziganto is a blogger writing on the American scene who is acquiring a large following. Her biting essay on Chris Matthews (cough) documentary this week impressed Eric Erickson on Redstate enough to feature it this week.

After watching the documentary, despite the sarcastic tone, My initial impression was that Lori pretty well nailed it.

So what do ya’ll think?

Chris Matthews’ ‘The Rise of The New Right’: Deceptions and Delusions

Last night, MSNBC aired a Chris Matthews special, labeled a documentary, called The Rise of the New Right. I decided to take a quick break from my radical right wing extremist acts like bitterly clinging to my guns and my Bible, whilst fiendishly drawing Hitler moustaches on Obama photos, to watch it. I know. Apparently, I’m a glutton for punishment. However, while absolutely infuriating, it was simultaneously hilarious and almost took my mind off the distressing shortage of windmills in this country.

Almost immediately, two things became rather apparent. Firstly, MSNBC’s NewSpeak definition of “documentary” is evidently “blatant fallacies and pure propaganda”. Secondly, it’s quite clear that Chris Matthews’ leg ‘tingle’ has moved into his brain, or what passes for some semblance of one. Either that, or he’s merely decided to embrace his cuckoo pants. Plus, he’s a big, fat liar. I feel no qualms about saying that, since Matthews spent a full hour demonizing me and people like me as violent, irrational racists. In fact, the entire show could be summed up like this:

Racists. Birthers. Guns! Evil scary militia groups that have the same “Don’t Tread on Me” flag!!! Chanting “USA, USA” and being fond of the Constitution and, you know, liberty is super scary and ominous. Also, racist. And violence fomenting. Plus, racist.
You see, now Community Organizing is evil and dissent is no longer Patriotic. Instead, that now signifies some sort of marauding mob of nefarious radicals who are doubleplusungood. President Obama said “I want you to talk to your friends and neighbors; I want you to argue with them and get in their faces” , but that was okay because George Bush. Or something.

It’s not okay when the right peaceably assembles, voicing opinions articulately, in full and coherent sentences and using facts and rational thought, because we aren’t supposed to even know how to read! Plus, we don’t base things on feel-goody Utopian ideas of kitten whiskers, fairy dust and magical windmills. We sneaky right wing-nuts embrace real world ideas like individual success is a good thing and that people do not need the government to run every aspect of their lives and businesses. Oh, the horror.

It must be horrifying, as the entire show was scored with super spooky music. A video clip of Ronald Reagan? Cue ominous horror movie music! A Sarah Palin segment? Dun dun dunnnn. Matthews, of course, portrayed Sarah Palin as a dum-dum “failed candidate”, yet also somehow ominous and fiendish, accusing her of putting those who voted for Obamacare “in the cross-hairs.” Get it? She’s totally fomenting violence. From her facebook page.

a NEW Right?.....has anyone told Dean?.....he is gonna shit....

Dunno.

Since Matthews had to go all the way back to the Clinton Administration to find stuff exotic enought to make his point, how new can this 'new right' be?

I watched it. It's the longest I've watched cable news in about 3 years.

I thought it was lame. Typical GE/MSNBC crap.

I find it kind of "funny" that they get all upset that a few bricks were thrown through through some politicians office windows while the war they are profiting off of is dismembering little kids.

The thing that irritates, sometimes infuriates, me about Chris Matthews and his ilk is they scour the newscasts among hundreds of scenes and clips they could use to find the one that they then use to illustrate the whole. It's not that much difference from message board posters choosing one offensive or stupid sign out of the thousands carried by Tea Partiers and using that as if that is what it was all about. But that is simply not the way it is.

To present the 'militia' types as typical is absurd. The militia has always been around and it is mostly guys who just like to go out and play army for a weekend. You can count on one hand incidents involving militia types, and those are generally really mild, but Matthews would have you think that all the 'new right' are rabid gun toting wild eyed nuts ready to do mayhem. That simply is not the way it is.

Matthews would scream to high heaven if somebody like him portrayed Code Pink or some angry war protest mob as typical of all the left.

But he does it, grossly misrepresents it as the 'new right', and pretends it is some kind of investigative report? He makes me sick.

terrifying, they will probably take over leadership and in an attempt to roll back everything Obama and the democrats have passed. We will sink further into despair. I don't think any of these political groups care about the country as a whole just themselves or their group.
The downfall of America.

so the "new" right is nothing but the "old" right.....

I thought it was pretty boring, frankly. Nothing I hadn't already seen before. I do like the term "new right," though, because I have been at a loss what to call tea partier types. They aren't "neocons," they [say] they're not Republicans, and anyone can be "conservative."

To me, the "New Right" are people whose ideologies are terrific, if we're all on the same track in a perfect world. My objection to most of it is that once you take the leap from ideology to the real world, it's not so easy.

To hear the other "side," we simply turn to Fox. It wasn't dubbed as a documentary on the Tea Party. The program was about the "new" right, and specifically what events evolved in its parting from the "normal" right and their anger. While you and some of your personal contacts may take a softer approach, you certainly can't deny that there is a lot of ugly talk and threats by the "new right." All you have to do is read the posts on this board, which I would say run 99% anger against anything this administration attempts, and 1% rational debate.

It was okay, I think the Rise of the New Reich might be a bit more spot on, and more examples of how related this movement is to the Red Baiting of McCarthy and the scapegoating of Jews, gays and gypsies by Hitler would give perspective.

Right. Fox is pretty friggen balanced. Talk about dragging the whole scale to the left, hard if you believe Fox is hard right. I've seen them give both sides quite well in regards to news. Juan Williams is still allowed there as one example. I've gotten just as mad at their coverage of the news as I have on the freakishly wierd occasions I see CNN, so I know they're being balanced to enough of a degree to not be die hard conservative.

Now they don't have lib talk shows and commentary because... hah! It doesn't sell well! That is blatantly obvious with the ratings of Anderson Pooper, Larry Dingaling (now "Retiring"), Madcow, Olberheil and Tingles the clown. That's why O'Reily, Beck and Hannity do so well on TV in comparison. The ground is ripe for them because it's been left fallow for so long. And even then, they're toned down from what they do on radio... well except for Beck... he's just better on Radio.

There is no truly conservative/libertarian outlet on TV, like there are radical liberal outlets as seen by the Major Networks and MSLSD. If there was, your liberal brain cell would overheat and explode in hate.

Well done Big Fitz though those still looking for somebody to blame, villains to accuse, or windmills to tilt at won't get it. You see above that there are some still spouting the far left standard assigned hate jargon and are unable or unwilling to focus on the principles involved. The whole Chris Matthews spiel was to attack, diminish, marginalize, demonize those on the right and he isn't about to get into the values that the Tea Partiers, 9/12ers, tax protest groups etc. are actually promoting. Those are ignored and recharacterized as 'hate', 'unrestrained anger', 'militias', 'ignorant people clinging to their guns and Bibles', etc.

Even Maggie up there who is trying very much to be reasonable simply dismisses conservative values as unworkable rather than getting down to the nitty gritty of WHY they are unworkable. Because I doubt very much she knows. It has been my experience that nobody who is a leftist does know because they just aren't wired to thnk in any terms other than leftist, socialist, big government solution terms. And they have been trained and/or brainwashed to think poorly of those on the right.

I don't know how we get around that other than just keep making our case and hope it gets through the fog here and there.

the author certainly has a constitutional right to mock the truth

however

it still remains the truth

there are a lot of R. conservatives who DO cling to both their guns and their bible and who DO make hitler comparisons to obama, hillary and every other democrat in the country.

fox news does these things on a daily basis

glenn beck
rush limbaugh
bill oreilly
sean hannity
chuck norris
and practically every teabagger in the country

cling to both their CHRISTIAN religion and their guns

mocking this fact does NOT lessen its' reality

anyway

the rise of the deranged, hatefilled, moronic, twisted right wing conservative christian

terrify or terrific...?

well

if you are a deranged, hatefilled, moronic, twisted conservative christian
who HATES liberals and democrats and homos and lesbos and think that FREEDOM means that conservative christians get to dictate the laws and morals of the land and legalling hunting down liberals (in season) makes perfect sense then you will LOVE the rise of these scum

on the other hand
if you are a sane and rational person who thinks freedom of religion DOES INCLUDE freedom FROM religion and that demonizing everyone to the left of limbaugh is a terible thing to do then you will most likely be nauseated at these scumbags

that is my competely fair and balanced and unbiased opinion

are you infuriated because you believe only fox news and ultra conservatives have the right to "scour the newscasts among hundreds of scenes and clips they could use to find the one that they then use to illustrate the whole."?

" It's not that much difference from message board posters choosing one offensive or stupid sign out of the thousands carried by Tea Partiers and using that as if that is what it was all about. But that is simply not the way it is."

and liberals do not hate god
nor do theyhate America
nor do they hate freedom
nor do they hate facts, truth, reality, christianity, christmas, families or children

how do I know YOU are telling the truth?
I can tell you are biased...
and biased people have a great tendency to SPIN reality

perhaps you WANT to believe that most militia types are just guys...
maybe you are wrong...

do you actually KNOW them all?

I was watching an nra gun show on tv about 10 years ago anmd a woman selling stuff was being interviewed..

on her table you could CLEARLY see bumper stickers reading

"make America a better place, shoot a liberal"
"I accelerate for liberals"

and such sentiments....

"But he does it, grossly misrepresents it as the 'new right', and pretends it is some kind of investigative report? He makes me sick.

you have yet to prove that he has grossly misrepresented the "new right"

there's this book
LUNACY BECOMES US

filled with quotes from hitler, hitlers pals and hitlers minions

things like "that GOD for sending us hitler"
and

"jews and atheists and intellectuals GROSSLY MISREPRESENT both hitler and the national socialists platform ...actually...we are really nice guys...."

personally I don't believe that the extreme right wing is being misrepresented...

I LISTEN to their shows
I READ their articles

seems to me their words are not much different from the BLAME and HATE SPEECH espoused by the nazis...

liberals HATE America
liberals hate GOD
liberals hate CHRISTIANITY
liberals want to DESTROY OUR VALUES and OUR COUNTRIES
liberals have NO MORALS

i mean
really...
these sentiments make sense to you?

socialism/liberalism/marxism/communism/fascism

This is the codification of envy and revenge into a political and life philosophy as well as religion.

Prove the postulate wrong if you can.

I get it. New Right is now the Leftwing Codeword for "Racists".

Prove the postulate wrong if you can.

Well he can't, but then he probably won't understand the point you're making either. Most on the left can't understand the point you are making.

Rikules is correct though that calling the leftist names and characterizing them with code words designed to inflame and insult is not much different than what Matthews was doing with that 'documentary'. But this is another of the standard policy of deflection from those on the left--playing the 'whose is blackest' game.

You've seen members admit that they defend Obama because 'Bush was so terrible'. You see them defend the Left not because of any specific policy but because 'conservatives are so greedy, selfish, evil, etc.' In other words 'we're okay because you guys were so bad.'

Matthews is a numbnut because he focused on stirring up the stereotypes the left have invented and dealt with none of the real issues fueling current activism from the right.
