That plays a huge role in how ignorant the American populous has become. I told this to an older lady at a Tea Party meeting we were invited to. She could not hardly believe that our congress would do that to its people.

Just for the sake of accuracy, that's the Fairness Doctrine, and it applied to broadcast stations on the air, requiring that if some partisan went on station X or Network Y and spouted off in one direction, then his target got the chance to respond (as, say, this message board allows "reply"). When that was dumped is exactly when Lush Rimjob, failed disk jockey and inveterate Opportunist, started up. Arguably that had a deleterious effect on discourse, perhaps monstrously so. And yes, that set the table for Rump.

Rump is a clown though. The appeal to fascism is an accurate read of his rhetoric, but he doesn't have a chance of actually executing it. And that really isn't his interest anyway -- his interest is exactly what it's always been: attention whoring. He feeds off it. If the unwashed simply stopped paying him the attention he craves, he'd shrivel up to a fraction of his bloated self and disappear. Actually he'd probably kill himself.
