I get the point but that is an overused line that makes me chuckle. The "We" is a bunch of BS. The fact is only a small percentage of people can actually save enough not to need some SS or medicare. One catastrophic illness should in NO WAY, NO WAY WHATSOEVER put someone into financial trouble. Something is very wrong with that.

I did contribute to society. I didnt sponge off anybody. Never collected unemployment. I did quit some jobs when my employers needed me most but that gave me a sense of pride as I quickly secured a much higher paying job and it put the bad employers in a bind which is what in my mind needed to happen. I saved enough to retire. I paid into SS and medicare. Now I get both. If that makes me a sponge then I PROUDLY wear the label. You want to get rid of SS and medicare and such? Fine, then give me back my cash, all of it, including some of my taxes that go for other stuff too like national defense. Cut that way down too. If we cut social programs then ALL programs, even the military, should be fair game.
