Currently in Northern Austria
The agricultural sectore is on the decline all over Europe, more people move into urban ereas and the countryside is slowly becoming depopulated.

Meanwhile forests as well as other natural features are returning:

Could it be that there will soon be a European "wild" outside of Scandinavia?

You make it sound like the land is going to seed and the wild bears and wolves have returned. In fact it has more to do with the efficiency of the agricultural sector and a deliberate policy of reforestation to pay the carbon tax.
