The policy of catch and release is why a wall is needed. What good does it do to use all kinds of technology to detect illegal immigration when government policy is to just release them anyway?.

No, a barrier is what is needed.

What is sad is, Eisenhower proved that all that is needed are policies to deter illegal immigration so as not to hire them if they come to the US via his Operation Wet Back program. During his administration, the government simply made sure that illegals were not hired and they self deported.

The problem today is, though, the government is divided. Government will no longer be united like this to combat illegal immigrants from being hired, nor can those in government be trusted to send back those detained so they can be released again.

So yes, sadly, a wall is needed.

Orrrrr you could use the money for more immigration courts so we can actually process these cases .

Since a wall does nothing for catch and release.

As I said, Eisenhower already proved with Operation Wetback the government can make illegals self deport, but there is no longer the will in government to do that.

Why then should we trust them to use the court system to send any back, especially with catch and release going on?

No, a wall is a beautiful thing because it cannot be ignored, you can't lie about it, it is either a barrier or it is not. There is no change no matter who is in government and even if they desire more illegals into the country.

Wall/Barrier/Tall Fence, whatever one chooses to call it, effectively works! Isn't perfect, but highly effective combined with other means, nonetheless.

You still have to catch and release them after they go over, under, through, or around the wall.

It may be the only way ET will stand a chance of winning another election

if Mueller does his job and the repubs don't

A wall is needed because conservatives fear indigenous people. More humane that giving them smallpox I suppose.

It's not a case of either/or. It's a case of a barrier, and other immigration reform. In lieu of no reform coming in the immediate future, a barrier is a great place to start!

Trump asked for that in other budgets............Guess what............it was DENIED..........imagine that.

Oh and Family Separation ...........Boo Hoo............They don't have hardly any family detention centers.......if they were concerned about that they would demand that more facilities for that as well...and put their money where their mouth is.............and to avoid being separated from their children ...........Outlaw the 20 day rule then..........

$5.7 billion will not build a wall you think it will...and it will not stop people from entering the USA..

We do for endless wars, bank failures, etc., etc.
Besides, each individual illegal costs the American taxpayer on AVERAGE, $70 K!
That is most likely an underestimate.
