New Orleans was reachable by multiple avenues of transportation.

While the oil spill is at a location as reachable as a nearby asteroid.

(Of course, in the case of the oil spill, we don't have as much equipment available as we would with the asteroid.)



New Orleans was a small area of land that simply needed people evacuated from effectively.

The oil spill covers an area of the gulf that's about 2 million times the size of New Orleans.



But hey, other than that, I guess they're EXACTLY the same.
