"I think the law should be very clear, we have the technology to do it. No employer should be allowed to hire anybody for a job without having first gotten verification from this national center that this person is eligible to vote .. eligible to work," Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) said. (source: WKRO-AM/Boston)

Of course it's about votes. That's the same reason Bush wanted to do it, to make them all Republican voters.

Yeah who was that last great progressive that gave the illegals amnesty and promised to secure the border...........

Why it's none other than the pseudo-conservative hero Ronnie "The Missiles are Flying" Raygun, yeah!

So why hasn't anyone done anything since except for Bush starting the fence?

If Reagan did it for votes. How come they don't vote GOP?

Good question for both parties. But don't kid yourself President Bush was pushing for Amnesty. What they won't tell you that they think we need the influx of citizens to help pay for the retiring baby-boomers. Because SS is a pay as you go scheme.......

If the idea is to make them citizens to pay for SS, then why aren't the dems pushing for it also? They get old too.

Why are the dems also against stopping them from coming in?

Amnesty failed, and failed badly, so there is no reason to do it again.

Try opening it in a new tab maybe?

They(Dems and Reps) came very close in 2007 to passing Bushes amnesty bill.

Amesty didn't fail. It was the second part of the deal, enforcement at the boarder and on the job that failed.

Why would anyone want to secure the border?

We make too much money off of Mexicans. As long as they work cheap and keep their mouths shut we will continue to look the other way

I rely on Mexicans for cheap labor

I hired them to do my taxes last year

I know you are being funny.

What happens to them is cruel and yet they still come here knowing what it's like. So as bad as it is, it must be better than in Mexico.

that, however, is not an excuse to work people harder for less.

Working to keep them out has created many jobs.

I just think it's time for drastic measures to protect our citizens.

Its not going to happen. We are slaves to cheap labor. As long as money is being made, politicians will not do anything of substance other than do ineffective roundups.

If we really wanted to stop it we would put employers in jail rather than rounding up people who just want to feed their families

That's an undertstatement.

You betcha, just look at Meg Whitman. She's pinching those $Billions

The borders remain porous for reasons that may include and are akin to Islamoterrorists invading Daghestan: the terrorists were building bunkers in the hills just above the FSB headquarters. FSB here is used as a kind of synonym for FBI. Key searchwords include Basayev (Basaev), Kittab. It's not Americans' fault that they have, for the most part, ignored events in Chechnya, or the murder of journalist, Anna Politkovskaya.

But he is also in favor of greater border security.

A typical gesture from elementary school days (screwing the head) will not change the fact that Russia wants oil, it whacks Chechens. If the Amero and Trans-Texas Highway is going to succeed, best leave things a bit porous. Honda Corporation is correct: hydrogen will eventually win, and since one ideal location is precisely an Arizona-Mexico quandrangle (the solar insolation level for hydrogen-electrolyser in that quadrangle is 271 Watts per square meter), the coming traffic requires a bit of political gesturing between U.S. and Mexican politics. The Chinese word, 'duh' is used to denote units of astronomical measure. So too, Rightwinger's use of a screw-the-head gesture may require a more intense scholarship.
