In recent years, China has become a key partner in Africa's development. Whether it's for the construction of hospitals, roads, stadiums or power plants, the money comes mainly from the Asian giant.

Many of the workers on the mega-projects in Africa are Chinese nationals who bring along not only their labor but also their own culture and political perspectives. This is fueling conflict, with the daily routine of 'Chinafrica' often characterized by discrimination.

A Kenyan rail project is one of China's investments in Africa that has been completed. The Madaraka Express line has for a year now provided a link between the capital Nairobi and East Africa's largest port of Mombasa. It is Kenya's biggest infrastructure project since independence from Britain in 1963.

Does Kenya have policies that deal with racism?

Is China racist? Or is China just taking advantage of countries it knows it can take advantage of, the same way the US has done in Africa, Latin America and Asia for a long time?

We have the same sort of thing going on in America.
The NYT has no sense of shame.

Ok. It sounds more like a culture clash. There is a difference between legally you can't sit at this lunch table and you just aren't wanted to sit at this lunch table. One you can do something about. The other might just create more problems.

If the issue is that the Chinese workers make more money or get the prima donna jobs then that is a problem. In fact, it irritates the hell out of me. If the issue is that the Chinese workers are accustomed to not rocking the boat when working conditions are bad then that would take some time and may not be resolved.

If this is an outside influence that is simply trying to maneuver themselves into a larger piece of the pie by exploiting cultural differences, that is a whole different game altogether.

When my sister worked in real estate selling houses, they hated to see an Asian person walk thru the door wanting to buy a house.

Because they would spend their time and gas money showing the potential Asian buyer several properties, go back to the office and write up the paperwork on a house. Only to have the Asian buyer go to one of his Asian real estate friends with the paperwork and say, "Here is what they priced me on the house, give me a better deal". And would end up buying the house from their Asian friend even if it was for the same money. ....
