There are very few extremists in the Tea Party Movement, and they are marginalized. The majority do not support there views. The invitations I've received for events have consistently stressed the objectives of staying on message regarding policy, and to avoid personal attacks. A few people on the fringe do not represent the vast majority of people who are involved due to the substance of the issues.
Considering how the Anti-War movement was smeared, using the exact same tactics being used on the Tea Party, it isn't surprising.
Every group has its fringe kooks. The extent to which the fringe kooks are being encouraged and condoned is the questions. Some of the stuff that was said by Palin and other organizers of the Tea Party movement has a lot of folks questioning that.
