Exodus 15:26: ""...If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee." (KJV)

II Kings 20:5: "...Thus saith Jehovah, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee..." (ASV)
Psalms 34:17-19: "The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles. The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all." (KJV)
Psalms 103: "Bless the Lord, O my soul,...And forget none of His benefits; Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; Who healeth all thy diseases;" (KJV)
Isaiah 53:5: "But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
Isaiah 57:18-21: "I have seen his ways, and will heal him: I will lead him also, and restore comforts unto him and to his mourners. I create the fruit of the lips: Peace, peace, to him that is far off and to him that is near, saith Jehovah; and I will heal him. But the wicked are like the troubled sea; for it cannot rest, and its waters cast up mire and dirt. There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked."
Jeremiah 30:17: "For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith Jehovah; because they have called thee an outcast..."
Hosea 6:1: "Come, and let us return unto Jehovah; for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up." (ASV)

Mark 16:18 "they shall take up serpents, and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall in no wise hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover."
"Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: and the prayer of faith shall save him that is sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, it shall be forgiven him." (ASV) This appears to be a guarantee of recovery for anyone who goes through a specific religious ritual, led by elders from his church. Not only healing would be automatically accomplished, but the formerly ill person would have his sins forgiven.

Give it a rest, we all know you are anti religious. Remind us again how you just hate when people preach to you and YOU do it constantly here on this site.

You don't believe, we get it. Some of us DO believe and your idiotic rants and stupid posts are not going to change that. By the way? Over 70 percent of the people in the US do happen to believe.

When religion gets in the way of common sense it deserves a good kicking. Other than that it's probably harmless enough and practitioners probably should be left to get on with it.

God vs Science? Well, it's difficult to say as nowadays science tells us that exist several dimensions we can't see or perceive at all, I mean if there are worlds and events existing and happening right here and now but we can't notice them, how can we give a considered opinion about similar questions.

Prayer works in about the same way that positive thinking works.

That is to say they both do tend have a positive effect on people.

There is an argument, and a powerful one, too, (one supported by psychological studies) that suggests that people who are not entirely in touch with reality, that is to say people who often employ magical thinking, are happier, healthier and more productive than those of us burdened with a more reality-based POV.

Now I'm talking about a generalized point of view about the world when I say the above.

Basically what it comes down to is this..

Happier people tend to be healthier, they're more resilient when facing adversity, and they often succeed not because they have a better grasp of reality than others, but precisely because they DON'T have a realistic attitude.

Of course, magical thinking can get people into trouble, too, don't get me wrong.

But if your basic POV is that all is right with the world, you're probably going to be more productive and willing to take on more tasks (in part because you're too stupid to understand that they cannot be done) than those of us who see the world for what it is.

Incidently I'm pretty obviously NOT one of these happily deluded people (damn it!)

I'm usually the kind of person to, when looking at a problem, sees why the solution doesn't exist, or why it cannot be done.

And then some magical thinking nitwit comes along, and since he's too happily deluded to see why it cannot be done, sets out to so it, and then does it... just to freaking piss me off.

entrepreneurs and inventers and scientists are magical thinking people in a sense....they are in the least...envisionaries. :)

Prayer is not a thing that "works" or doesn't work. Prayer is a means of communication with God. The results of prayer are varied, and often fall into the category of unexplainable. However, I know that our faith is about a relationship and not a religion, and that relationship is one that does change the way one thinks and lives. The things that result from prayer are not always just positive things. Health issues fall on everyone, no matter how much faith they might have. Happiness is a choice, and not caused by our prayers. However, Joy is an inward experience we have because of our prayerful relationship with God.

I can only say that prayer has often resulted in ways that can only be explained in terms of "God did it."

Prayer is just another word for begging. You beg your god to notice a dumb little worthless piece of shyte like yourself and to bestow upon you something that your pathetic life can't get on your own. And when your begging doesn't work, you still kiss the invisible man's ass and beg for his forgiveness.
Does that about sum it up?

smartt, I bet you pray that you sleep through the night without crapping yourself. How's that working out?

Then why can't y'all agree on what he's saying?

Which is why all double- and triple-blind studies performed by respected scientists and specialists have indicated that praying does not hlp and that being told you're being prayed for (since it makes morons less compliant) can make you worse off...

Once again AGS can offer no refutation for my points- in the thread he chose to come view- and turns to pathetic personal attacks after being made to feel stupid and disillusioned.

Answer the questions or get out of the thread.
