Actually, if they were hired before they went to Libya they did not go there on their own dime, the ticket would be purchased by the company. I was looking for contractor jobs in the Middle East and you don't pay for your initial ticket to the country.

If there is an American embassy in the country, gather the Americans there and fly them out. Similar things have been done in Lebanon in 2006 when Hezbollah fought the Israelis and even during the uprising in Egypt, every Embassy has procedures to get their people out in case of an emergency, nothing new.

As soon as the sanctions were lifted and Americans started going back to Libya, we had to re-open the Embassy, its the first step in rebuilding diplomatic relations.
