The political opinion of "terrorist"

If "terrorism" was based on fact and not political opinion, everyone would be on the same page.

Reading this article shows how political, and ridiculous, terrorist designations can be.

Which is 100% once a group are seen as terrorists by their own race then they are terrorist and should be eliminated.

What would you use as an objective, fact-based, measure to define terrorism?

P F Tinmore, et al,

Yes, --- yes. In most cases (not all) terrorist oppose the designation of being a terrorist because of the sanctions and focus it brings upon them. There are similar just designation for which Terrorist is used as the umbrella terms. You often here where insurgents, jihadists, Islamic radicals and asymmetric militants used as alternative descriptions for radicals who employ terrorist tactics as a political weapon; many times in coordination with other terrorists in small cells; and radicals often uses religion as a cover for terrorist activities. Terrorism is often the tactic of choice for small groups which identify as disenfranchised victims attempting to achieve through deadly engagement and encounter on soft or innocent targets in the bling to coerce a political outcome for the objectives they could not achieve through other means. Some elements involved in terrorism are often made-up of constituent components that are themselves transmitted generationally (parents to siblings).

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said:
“Whether Daesh [ISIS], the PKK, the PYD or FETO, all [are] terrorists in our view,” he said. “[Jabhat] al-Nusra, al-Shabaab whichever … all terrorist organizations. We cannot make distinctions [between] bad terrorists, good terrorists. Terrorists are terrorists.”

The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), a group waging a separatist struggle with the Turkish state for three decades, is – like Hamas – a U.S.-designated FTO.

If "terrorism" was based on fact and not political opinion, everyone would be on the same page.

I disagree; it is not ridiculous. However, being deep in Muslim Territory and constantly exposed to terrorists (DAESH right around the corner), where every which way you turn there is terrorist activity --- I can see where he might be given that impression. Hell, a number of senior HAMAS (Islamic Jihadist) are hiding out there, and Turkey is often used for HAMAS summits.

REMEMBER:
The Palestinian militant Leader (a euphemism for terrorist) Saleh Al-Arouri, a senior officialin HAMAS, admitted at a conference in Turkey that the al-Qassam Brigades were responsible for kidnapping them.

Being cosy with one kind of terrorist does not always save you from the others.

I see the coercion having an effect on the Turkish Leadership. They has to back some brand of Islamic Radicals, because Turkey is Muslim [nearly 99.8% (mostly Sunni)]. The Turk Republic will soon be making overature towards the Russian Federation to assist in an eradication program directed to DAESH Remnants that will gradually make their way across the border into the Turkish Republic. The Millî İstihbarat Teşkilatı (MIT) does not want the residual survivors to reconstitute in areas of religious polarization and threaten the
stability of local, Regional and Provincial governments. The Russians have the experience, resource and training to engage these hostile activities no a level beyond that the West Security Services are willing to approach.

Turkish Leadership believed that neutrality would protect them against the influence of the various terrorist bands. But all it did was to draw more in. Like Lebanon in the al-Bekka Valley in Lebanon --- Hezbollah has more influence than the government and its own military. Turkey does not want something like that in the hills surrounding Antakya which is less than 100 km from Aleppo, and were currently Turkish Special Forces are in play. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan mentioned the Syrian City of Jarablus because that is were the Turks engaged DAESH.

What the Turkish experience tell us is that trying to remain neutral is not a valid strategy.

Most Respectfully,
R
