The Party that can't say yes

For days, the White House has infuriated its Democratic allies in Congress by offering House Republicans more and more in exchange for a deal to raise the debt ceiling and prevent default. But it was never enough, and, on Friday evening, it became clear that it may never be enough. Speaker John Boehner again walked away from the “grand bargain” he had been negotiating with President Obama, leaving the country teetering on the brink of another economic collapse.

At the White House podium a few minutes later, the president radiated a righteous fury he rarely displays in public, finally placing the blame for this wholly unnecessary crisis squarely where it belongs: on Republicans who will do anything to upend his presidency and dismantle every social program they can find. “Can they say yes to anything?” he asked, noting the paradox of Republicans, who claim that financial responsibility and debt reduction are their biggest priorities, rejecting yet another deal that would have cut that debt by at least $3 trillion.

Actually, the blame squarely belongs on Obama, Pelosi, and Reid, who together have spent $5 trillion more than their budget allowed, in only 2.5 years. You don't spend money you don't have. Period. End of story.

Additionally, they lied to the American people about the cost of Obamacare - hiding costs that have now been exposed by everyone from Glenn Beck to the Congressional Budget Office. So they clearly don't care about fiscal responsibility or the consequences of their nation-collapsing spending.

I'm damn proud of the Tea Party candidates and new wave of Reagan-conservatives that have stormed Washington to stop this Marxist/Socialist, European-like nightmare created by Obama, Pelosi, and Reid. There has to be some adults in the room. And adults say NO. I tell my children no all the time, because children have no idea what is good for them and they constantly want to do things that will harm them. That describes the Dumbocrats - children with no idea of the harm they are doing. Thank God we have some Tea Party adults in the room saying no. I can think of nothing better than the country defaulting come August. We have to stop the spending. $14 trillion in debt is maddening. It's unacceptable. No more spending! No more Marxism/Socialism/Communism. No more shredding the US Constitution. No more unlimited federal power. No more multi-trillion dollar social programs promoting poverty.

Proud to be the party of NO! Proud to be the only adults in the room!

Economics lesson.....

When an economy is in a deflationary spiral, the government MUST be the demand of last resort. The spending saved us from another Great Depression.

Now that the economy is growing again, we need to cut spending and raise taxes.

Pretty simple really.

Obama needs to wake up fully and realize that public opinion is overwhelmingly on his side in this fight,

and act accordingly.

Part of this is his own doing, i.e., past practice of caving in to GOP political terrorism, the best example being the tax battle in December when the Republicans threatened to let all the Bush tax cuts expire - as opposed to any compromise - if the president didn't give them everything they wanted.

Now they're conditioned to believe that their brand of extremist political terrorism works.

To the bitter end, liberals will close their eyes, deny reality, and try to wish away their problems. "Obama needs to wake up and realize that public opinion is on his side in this fight"?!?!? OMG - LMAO!!! His polls numbers are so low, I think Saddam Hussein would get higher approval from the American people than Barack Hussein is getting.

Last November, the public opinion was so "overwhelmingly" behind the radical Marxist Barack Hussein that Republican's won nearly every election nation wide from Congress right down to local county auditor in landslide elections. It was so bad, Dumbocrats lost 100% of the special elections, including the back yard of the Kennedy's - Massachusetts - to Scott Brown. Additionally, Dumbocrats lost 100% of the elections that Barack Hussein campaigned on their behalf for - to the point where liberal candidates actually requested the president to stop campaigning on their behalf. LMAO!

Denial - it's not just a river in Egypt anymore, is it my Socialist friend?

Economic lesson....

The free market cannot and does not go into "deflationary" spiral - only artificial markets influenced by governments go into any type of spiral at all. The single biggest cause of our economic collapse was the housing market. You know - the section of the market that was taken over by the US government when Dumbocrat Bill Clinton signed a bill forcing Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to make loans to people who didn't previously qualify (because Dumbocrats believe everyone is entitled to anything they want, whether they work for it or not). As those people started getting into financial debt from owning homes they couldn't afford and would not have gotten a loan for had government not forced institutions to give them the loan, they started putting more and more needs on credit cards. Eventually, they couldn't pay back the home loans and they couldn't pay back the credit card bills. As more and more people defaulted, the assets became worth less and less, meaning the banks couldn't recoup their money even when foreclosing.

Pretty simpl really... (that is, if you're not a brainwashed liberal who believes that Marxism/Socialism/Communism is not the answer to all of life's problems because MSNBC told you so).

By the way, free markets also can't experience inflationary "spirals" either. Those too are caused only by governments run by Dumbocrats like Barack Hussein and Jimmy Carter who think that printing endless supplies of money "fixes" economic issues created by the same stupid goverments.

Most of the money the government borrows ends up in the hands of corporations eventually.

You are really missing the whole point, aren't you.

"Corporate Welfare", a spectacularly inaccurate term, is money that was not taken away from corporations.

Regular old welfare is the redistribution of money that has been taken from corporations.

In your understanding of the country, there are no property rights. All wealth is the property of the government and all labor, property and effort are the property of the government. It is only by their largess that we are allowed to use it for a time before committing it to their care as they have owned it all along.

I have clear title to a house, property and some cars. I have an income stream earned from working full time. There are various investments and personal savings that I have diligently saved instead of squandering my cash. In your vision of the country, is there any property or wealth that is mine?

This is the same old Republican bullshit...it always boils down to welfare.

Welfare is a tiny percentage of the federal budget.

Most of the budget is Social Security, Medicare, and defense.

The Republicans want to kill Social Security and Medicare, so their buddies on Wall Street can get their hands on all that delicious retirement money.

Good grief - do you have any idea how silly you sound? We spend roughly $1 trillion per year on welfare alone (that's double what we spend on defense) Which means, if we elliminated welfare tomorrow, we could wipe out our entire national debt in only 14 years. A "tiny percentage of the federal budget"?!?!? Why do you insist on speaking about things you know nothing about? Maybe if you educated yourself on the facts, you wouldn't be supporting the Dumbocrats!

I guess the democRAts forgot in 2006 when Bush wanted to raise the debt ceiling they did the same to him . I dont think the Rep should give in. When the DemocRATS ran the house, senate and WH they could not even pass a budget but now its urgent. GEEZ wiz, Its urgent so they can blame the REP so Obummer can blame everything on them

Great point Loverbears! The Pelosi-lead, super-majority Dumbocrat controlled House didn't even propose a budget, much less pass one. They were the only house in US history to do that - and they could have passed anything they wanted.

Shows you the monumnetal failure of the Dumbocrats. They really are like children. They can't even propose a budget, much less pass one, when they have full control of everything. I guess Pelosi was too buzy flying in her Gulfstream V private jet (at the expense of the American tax payer) to worry about a silly little thing like a budget. Oh, and lets not forget her trip to Italy on a military jet for her birthday - again paid for by the American tax payer to the tune of $2 million. Again, all those party's around the world on private jets and military air craft takes up a lot of time - can't expect her to propose or pass a budget.

Economics lessons are wasted in a political arena. The Reps have stated that they will not accept an increase in taxes.

The Big 0, for being such an wise and learned man, seems a little dense on this.

The problem is not taxes. The problem is spending. Like every Democrat plan, if the problem is clearly stated and clearly defined, pick a solution to solve something else.

The Government is spending too much so the Big 0 decides that a portion of taxpayers that he has defined as "The Rich" need to be punished.

What?!!??!

If the problem is that The Government is spending too much, we all know the actual solution. The government needs to spend less.

If you call this economy a growing one, by the way, you're delusional. You will recognize a growing economy by the growth, not the statements of the bribed economists on the White House payroll.

You will see unemployment below 7%, housing starts back to 2008 levels, business start ups back at 2007 levels, large cranes constructing large buildings paid for by large sums of private maney and steadily increasing wage rates.

Liberals call this a growing economy? Liberals are so smart they can know things when there is absoutely no evidence to create that belief.

When the top 1% pay taxes at a 17% rate and 45% of Americans don't pay federal income tax at all, the problem is taxes as well as spending.

Perhaps the answer is to institute a national sales tax that graduates to higher and higher levels as the luxury application of the item purchased rises to higher and higher levels.

In that way, the corporate tax drops to zero attracting businesses and growing profits along with opportunites for job growth. Things like bread and milk would have a low tax rate while while things like E-Class Mercedes would have have a high tax.

As a side benefit, the IRS dissolves as it's no longer needed. The complex tax code evaporates and the ability of the Federal government to engineer society through taxation goes away. Millions of accountants are jobless overnight, but they're usually republicans so screw them.

Of course, we run the risk that the rich would simply buy their stuff in Canada or Mexico and drive it or fly it home from there. Maybe a stern import tax for personal property that exceeds the domestic sales tax...

A separate level of tax for industrial purchases.

In this way 100% of the country's citizenry pay tax and the rich pay more if they spend their money instead of sewing it into a mattress.

BULLSHIT DIMWIT LIES!!!! The truth is the speaker walked out because the prick in charge, obamaturd, wanted 10 billion dollars more in spending. When a dimwit is honest the truth is they are in the wrong. LIAR!!!

I appreciate you presenting an idea without invective. Thank you.

I would prefer a progressive income tax with only a few deductions like mortgage interest, medical expenses, and education.

Capital gains should be taxed as income if they are not re-invested within one year.

That way capital is liquid, and the rich can't escape taxes by capital gains.

Obama is not a socialist. He is almost George Bush III.

The healthcare plan he passed requiring people to buy for profit insurance from corporations is the SAME PLAN introduced by Republicans in the early 1990's.

You need to do a little more reading.

When the top 1% pay taxes at a 17% rate and 45% of Americans don't pay federal income tax at all, the problem is taxes as well as spending.

You're showing your lack of knowledge on this subject once again. The top 1% pays 40% of the total taxes in this country, and the top 10% pays 68% of the total taxes in this country. Meanwhile, as you pointed out but with slightly wrong numbers, 47% of American's don't pay any taxes at all.

So I'd say it's quite clear that the "evil rich" as liberals like to portray them are burdened enough. Why don't you go collect taxes from the 47% of parasites who aren't paying anything at all if you want more revenue? Additionally, over the past decade, revenues to the federal government have been as high as they've ever been. We don't have a revenue problem, we have a spending problem.

Tell Barack Hussein to end his obsession with choo-choo's. Stop giving billions of dollars to create European-style railways. Additionally, stop spending $10 trillion on European-style healthcare. If you and Barack love Europe and Socialism/Marxism/Communism so much, why don't you guys go live there and get the hell out of the US so the rest of us can get this country back on track?

We spend $1 trillion dollars on welfare. What part of that don't you understand? A trillion dollars is not "tiny"! It's massive. Additionally, where did I ever say that Medicare is welfare? I didn't. They are seperate programs, one of many nation-collapsing Socialist/Marxist programs created by the Dumbocrats.
