The Paranoid Style in American Politics | Harper's Magazine
From the November 1964 issue
You're the expert, Luddite.
It's still around, and it's bigger than ever. Unfortunately for America(ns), paranoia has now gone mainstream in the conservatives wing of Republican Party. And that wing is bigger than it's ever been before so they can't just summarily be marginalized like past examples of extremism in both political parties.
Yikes, 1964, that's pretty interesting.
Is it paranoia, is it narcissism, is it anger, some combination therein, who knows. But he nails it when he points out "how much political leverage can be got out of the animosities and passions of a small minority."
Wow, what is old is new again.
