The late great Pavarotti, singing the stunning aria "Nessun Dorma" (let no one sleep) from Pucinni's Turandot:

And sung with a female voice....an aria that has been traditionally been saved for men....

Opera is the olympics of singing - most pop singers sound like they're talking by comparison.

Here's Sarah Brightman singing "O Mio Babbino Caro" (Oh My Dear Father) from Gianni Schicci by Puccini. A beautiful song (essentially, a girl asks her father to stay out of her love life).

One of the most gorgeous pieces in opera, the "Flower Duet" from the opera Lakme by Delibes. In the opera, two women are walking by a river gathering flowers. Performances like this remind me why I love women. Skip to 1:20 if you want to just listen to the main theme. :eusa_angel:

Perhaps the most beautiful aria in all opera, "un bel di" (one beautiful day) from Puccini's Madame Butterfly, sung by one of the greatest sopranos of all time, the late Maria Callas:

I once attended an opera titled "Hansel and Gretel".

It was entirely in German.

I almost shot myself.

Was that at Northwestern? Such was my first date with my ex-husband. LOL!

The world's greatest drinking song, "Libiamo Ne' Lieti Calici" (Let us drink from the goblets of joy) from Verdi's La Traviata. If this doesn't make you feel like hoisting one, you probably don't have a pulse. :D Great song.

The "Seguidilla" from Bizet's Carmen. This is my favorite opera of all time - the music is too cool and I've always been obsessed with the character of Carmen. In this scene, Carmen is in a jail in Seville. The guard commander, Don Jose, is trying to do paper work, but she teases him into a frenzy.
