The only solution to Washington tyranny: Restore state sovereignty

There is no doubt this piece comes from a right wing source. But, there can be no doubt that it makes a whole lot of sense – and seeks to return this nation to the way it was viewed by the men – and women – who shed their blood to make it exist. A Federation of States.

The Federal government was envisioned to have two basic and powerful duties – defend the constitution and our borders and to settle disputes between the several states. No more. No less.

And over the years, those basic beliefs have been bastardized by progressives and socialists who despise individual freedoms. Either from the states or the people of this nation.

We are seeing an example of this government tyranny right now in the European Union. An effort to take away national values and authority to centralize them in a central government no longer responsive to the individual countries.

Well that is an interesting analogy- but interesting in a flawed way.

In the EU, a Belgian thinks of himself as a Belgian- who happens to be part of the EU.

IF Italy were to be attacked, the Belgian wouldn't think- "my country is under attack"

In the United States, a Californian or a Texan might have different politics- but if Texas was attacked, Californians would still consider that an attack on our country- the United States of America.

Why you would want less of a national identity- to be more like the EU than like the United States- I do not understand.

I'm sorry if I gave the wrong impression. It's One-Worlders and Progressive like Obama who want us to be more like the EU.

I am totally and irrevocably opposed to it.

Exactly how?

The EU is a union of independent states- each with its own national sovereignty- far more like our early United States than the current United States.

The far right reactionaries and libertarians now know that their dreams are over.

Even if a Trump or a Cruz is elected, they will be Big Government ponies, no doubt about it.

I rather doubt many Americans would prefer your federation of states to the United States.

The United States were to be United as he proposed.

The constitution was to be "revised" as things changed....via the amendment process.

Why don't you attempt to repeal the 10th amendment ?

Answer: You don't need to. Our country lost this view quite some time ago. Do I blame the left...no...that is what they do...create kings and use government to run our lives....I expect it.

The conservatives of the time (and today) have let their guardianship slip and have failed.

We have what we have.

I agree it was it is. The option to restructure the nation into a federation of states is not really an option.

I think what is often ignored, is the people supported the growth of federal government. There has always been opposition to the growth of the federal government. If people wanted to stop it, they could have elected people that would have but no they didn't and why. Because they wanted the things a large powerful centralized government could provide.

There are several explanations.

Because they wanted......is just one of them.

Being to fat/dumb/happy to care is another.

Being stupid is also a reason.

Now, you see Trump blowing gas and being very popular because people have come to understand that they are also getting a lot of things they don't want from a powerful centralized government.

History repeats itself again and again.

Just consider what the name of our country is. The United STATES of America, not the United FEDERATION of America. The original intent was that states were to have more power and the Federal government limited power except in cases of interstate commerce, currency, border management etc. Well somewhere along the way that got tossed and we have have a beast of a central government that would make the Founders roll over in their graves.

Yeah, the Bill of Rights applying to the States, women and black people voting, slavery abolished, they'd shit their pants.

I think most of the framers recognized things change, just as it had changed while they lived and it would continue to change. One of the changes that the founders coped with was a new age that of liberalism. In history it was called "The Age of Enlightenment." They fought the Revolutionary War and created the Articles and then the Constitution during this age. And the changes continue, hopefully in the same vein.

You are describing a democratic government where the people which includes the fat/dumb/happy get what they want, at least most of the time.

About the topic.

I do not like large scale tyranny, yet I do not like small scale tyranny either. State governments generally exercise more power than the federal government, and it is in my opinion that most exercises of power do not serve in my favor. Therefore I am fundamentally opposed to both state sovereignty and national sovereignty, instead opting in favor of a higher degree of individual sovereignty.

Oh really....

Then why are the 1% and minimum wage such hot topics.

Does not sound like people are really thrilled with where things are at.

Of course this ignores the numerous instances in which the states themselves have practiced tyranny. No entity should be trusted with unchecked sovereignty. Rather, "Ambition must be made to counteract ambition"

Not only do States laws more directly impact you, per the 'State Sovereignty' argument, the States should be free to violate whatever rights they wish. With no accountability to the constitution save what they decide they have.

I do not believe any organized institution should have power over me. I do not care for society as a whole beyond my local community, and only ask that I be allowed to fight my own battles. It is no mystery why I am opposed to the OP.

Then you're opposed to laws in general?

You sound like an anarchist. Which is itself an untenable mass of hopeless contradictions.

Having worked for both, I can say without hesitation, federal workers within similar positions are generally better qualified and more professional. The various programs seem to be better funded, supervised and have better accountability. The major problem I've seen in federal programs, is there tends to be less legislative oversight so programs that are no longer needed live on and on.

Then you're opposed to laws in general?
Absolutely.

You sound like an anarchist.
I am.

Which is itself an untenable mass of hopeless contradictions.
I want to abolish all forms of established power <--- Did I contradict myself? No, I did not.
Anarchy is an untenable, self contradictory mess. As its either an imaginary pipe dream based on childishly naive assumptions, or it uses different but thoroughly enforcible systems of power to make people behave.

Its also irrelevant to any discussion of the constitution.

Sure, if you say so.

Its also irrelevant to any discussion of the constitution.
I agree, which is why I was surprised you brought it up.
