The only industrialized country in the world without national health insurance

And the right wingers are Damn proud of it.

Seems like we also pay lots more per capita for health care than the other industrialilzed nations?
Connection?

What I am proud of is that we have the most progressive national tax system in the world. Connection?

We do not however have the highest effective tax rates in the world.

What does that have to do with what I said?

There are not enough rich people on the planet to pay for all the things the government wants to spend money on, adding in national health care for everyone would only make it worse. The way those socialist coutries pay for their national system is a VAT that adds taxes to every single transaction. This tax is highly regressive, and impacts poor people much heavier than it does rich people. Those OECD countries you think are so wonderful force everyone to pay taxes, even the poor, and the result is that the poor pay a much higher percentage of their income to the government than they do here.

Another thing that you might find interesting, the higher tax brackets kick in at much lower incomes in Europe than they do here. The highest tax bracket in France, which many people point to as an example of how a health care system should be run, kicks in at less than $75,000, something that would cause Americans to howl in outrage.

Take some time to educate yourself on the real consequences of the policies you are advocating, and how wonderful our tax system actually is.

How many of the people here who are opposed to universal/single payer health care have actually lived in a country that has one?

How do you expect to pay for your wonderful system? Magic won't work, neither will taxing the rich, which leaves raising taxes on the middle class and the poor.

What do you live in some alternate universe? We ALREADY pay for our wonderful system..it is just in a manner that does not serve business or the very young poor and the aged.

The money is OBVIOUSLY already there..or we wouldn't have this WONDERFUL system.

We need to work the payment from being a drag on business to an incentive to promote business.

Or should we just keep on putting a ball and chain on the only real engine that has proven time and time again to rise up and carry us into a prosperous future.

What the hell. Why Not?

We cant pay for what we have now. Pile it on. We can just print it.

We're Mexico and Canada's out patient clinic, any wonder we have a high per capita cost?

I realilze that we must not be as finiancially innovative and smart as some of the other countrys with good economies and socialized medicine.

If we have a wonderful system why do you want to fix it?

Whoa now, you're not answering the important question: how the hell could we possibly pay for something that costs less than what we pay for now?

By cutting services and care for patients who need it most, which explains why the US has the highest survival rate for people after they are diagnosed with a serious illness.

Nice of you to ignore the post where I explained exactly what it would cost to get that system. Do you really think that imposing a 75% tax rate on income over $75,000 is a good idea?

Because it does not serve our strength ...it stiffles it.

I disagree. I think that the fact that people come here from all over the world, even from countries that have universal health care, proves that the system here actually serves our strength. We just need to get the government out of the market to make it really work.

I haven't. Interestingly this is a question that really shows one's moral character. It is quite easy to be for that which also happens to be beneficial to yourself. Obviously it is beneficial to me personally to pay less for healthcare (for arguments sake I'm assuming cost is the only thing changing and things like access and quality of resources are on par with the U.S., which isn't true of course, but again just for argument's sake). That does not however make it right to implement. You wanting to pay less for health care doesn't make it okay for you to use government to lower those costs by mandating that others must share in your financial burden.
