It is really too bad that the Republican part is controlled by Right Wing nuts like Limbaugh, Hannity, and probably Palin. Republicans claim that the country is center-right. But that is really not where today's GOP really stands. If Obama leads the Democratic party by following the ideas he revealed during his campaign, the Democratic party has an opportunity to stay in power for a few years.

It is amusing to see Hannity try and pin everything ranging from the economy to his undwed daughter's pregnancy on the Obama Presidency! The fact that there isnt an Obama Presidency yet, just doesnt seem to matter to Hannity! O'Reilly is similar, but not as blatant as Hannity. Even some of Hannity's more moderate Republican guests (Tim Pawlenty of MN, for example) show disagreement with Hannity's blatant right wing lunacy, but they know that if they disagree with him strongly, the Right Wing will rip them apart; so they just permit themselves a wan smile, and bite their tongue, and try to interject a modicum on sensibility.

So.. the surgeon screws up and paralyzes you for life, you basically are supposed to say "Damn, I'm glad I didn't have to PAY for that?" The type of system you're talking has no accountability. Kind of like the IRS. They screw up and give you bad info when you call the help line, YOU still pay the penalty. I don't see much incentive for medical personnel to strive for excellence either.

Big Pharma will still make profits, just not as much. A lot of medical research is done at the thousands of universities around the world by the way.

Toyota just located a plant in Canada instead of the U.S. because Canada has lower healthcare costs. The percentage of healthcare costs in the U.S. is now 16% of GDP and rising. We have gone in the wrong direction on so many issues, that soon we will be a third world country.

Our advances in care and in procedures are no longer second to none. South Korea actually is ahead of us in stem cell research and Israel is far ahead of us in both health care and treatment of neurological and spinal injuries. And that is just off of the top of my head.

You need to bring your "knowledge" up to date. Puffing out your chest isn't proof.

If you think that Obama's stated policies have not scared many Americans to withdraw from the market, think again. Over two months ago I removed my investments, less than $100,000, from the equities markets and put them in guaranteed income, in anticipation of an Obama win. It was the smartest move I have made in a while since the stock indexes have dropped substanially since his election. I would say that it is fear of his policies and those of the socialist Democrats in Congress,that is causing this mad dash from the market. It sure influenced me.

By the way, anyone who has ever passed Economics 101 would know that Clinton was lucky enough to ride the high wave of the Reagan tax cuts but he short-circuited that wave by raising taxes, even on the dead. If you did pass Econ 101 you should also know that for every dollar sucked out of the private economy by the government it becomes an unproductive dollar and produces zero growth. Clinton's tax hikes eventually brought on the recession of 2000-2001, which Bush's tax cuts reversed in short order. Now, Obama wants to raise taxes, and it won't be just on the wealthy, whoever that may be. Clinton promised middle income tax cuts and ended up raising taxes on everybody! Obama will end up doing the same and it will be his party in Congress who will force him to do it.

If the healthcare of the countries you mentioned, and perhaps some you did not, is so great why do foreign leaders come to the US when they are in need of world class care? They do not go to the countries with socialized medicine, they come here. Even citizens of Canada come to this country because healthcare is rationed and often delayed because of government rules that some times results in death before they ever see a doctor or able to have a precedure that would have saved their lives. In my book that makes socialized medicine a failure, as is socialism in its entirety.

By the way, I have asked this question before and have not ever been given answer. Maybe some one will explain it to me. Why should I have to pay taxes to buy your health insurance for you? I am paying for mine without your help. That is your responsablity. If it so important to you then cut back on other items and expenses and purchase your policy. There are many low cost plans out there. Health insurance is a commodity, like car insurance, do you want me to buy that for you too because you think it is also too expensive. This is all a matter of priorities, learn how to set them.

Poor people in this country have access to healthcare already through medicaid, medicare, and rules that state every hospital must accept charity cases regardless of insurance. Is the system perfect? No. But it is still the best healthcare system in the world and socialized medicine will bring it to ruin just as it has done in other countries. Freedom above all else!
