In my opinion, the biggest problem with the United States is that people no longer trust our government. The federal government has lost all of it's credibility, lies to the people, doesn't represent the people, and is far too powerful. Back in the 1700s and 1800s people trusted the government and the government didn't have all of these conspiracies they were performing against the American people. Our elected officials actually cared and were real people like you and me, not people like Obama or Bush or any of these clowns in Congress.

And to be honest, the people are partially responsible for this. Yes, it is important for the federal government to have some power, as to preserve the union, but we're hardly a union anymore, now we're just a single nation-state just like Russia or France. We're not a union or a confederation. People rely on the federal government for everything, instead of relying on their state governments.

The Constitution is a joke now, it's a wonderful document, but our own government only abides by it when it is convenient for them to do so. They have the CIA out there killing our own people simply because they "know too much," we have wiretapping and the Patriot Act. We have them keeping secrets from us and committing acts that are detrimental to the lives of Americans. We have horrible liberals who want to ban guns. We have abusive police forces and corrupt public officials who don't listen to the people. We need an honest government again, one that fully understands and respects the Constitution and that is by the people and for the people.

The biggest problem is the selection process for our representatives. Many qualified people will not run because they will be vilified over their past or they cannot muster enough funds. The selection and election of representatives becomes a beauty contest, not who can represent the people the best. And that is the foundation of bad government!!!

That's why I think we need to go to public funding of elections. Our representitves are spending too much time "selling" their votes to whomever can bundle the largest amount of campaign contributions. The UK has some version of this. Anyone have first hand knowledge of how it works and whether it works well?

Rogue government is rogue. The republican/democrat argument is mute because they both work for the same corporate elite crowd. The only way this will change is if the citizens of this nation wake up, and stand up.

Otherwise the status quo will continue unabated.

I think the status quo apple cart gets overturned when the number of college graduates who cannot find adequate employment dramatically increases. When enough face the bleak prospect of defaulting on their student loans thereby cementing terminal bad credit and become socially immobile, then the crap will hit the fan.
How long this will take and when that will be is anybodys' guess.

People love to hate their government. It has been going on for 200 years

Thankfully in this country we are allowed to vocalize dissent. However, the fact still remains that the current government, more importantly the executive branch, has run rogue for 100 years or so now. Doing the bidding for special interest groups, globalizers and themselves. But not the citizens that (supposedly) put them in place.

Hating government and not trusting government are two different things.

And when the governemnt is for the people and BY the people, there is somethiung wrong with "the people" hating it.

You may want to compare our government to other governments, but the foundation of our government is not compared or matched by any other.

This country was FOUNDED on not trusting government, pukenozzle. You think it's a problem we're not all government trusting lemmings? That's not a PROBLEM. It's quite the opposite.:cuckoo:

vocalizing dissent (like we're doing here) and taking to the streets in mass to protest aren't exactly the same. However, I agree that our rights are suppressed.

Also, getting your point acrossed usually works better when you dont attack your audience and incite a shit show. Just sayin.

The number 1 problem with America is we the people.

We are corrupt. We don't take responsibility for our actions. We expect others to give us things whether we deserve them or not. We expect to be able to live the high lifestyle whether we can afford to or not. We have no core principles keeping us together and on the right path anymore. We are apathetic

And because we are corrupt, our representatives represent our corruption in our government. Do you honestly think the politicians could get away with what they did if we eliminated the corruption in our lives? Do you think we would be able to tolerate such poor candidates? Do you think we wouldn't get involved to vote them out?

The Tea Party is an attempt to get the corrupt politicians out, but I think we need to focus on fundamentally changing our lives first. We need to build our character with the principles of thrift, industry, integrity, honesty, patitence, charity, non-violence, etc. Or will end up destroying ourselves in the end.

If we correct the problems we have in ourselves and in our families, our Republic and our society will fix itself. But we need to fix our inner selves.
