[. . .] Nationwide, at least 23,000 schools — about one-third of all public schools — already had armed security on staff as of the most recent data, for the 2009-10 school year, and a number of states and districts that do not use them have begun discussing the idea in recent days. . .

Plus the NRA plan was much more comprehensive than just armed guards.

Where was the outrage when President Clinton championed "COPS in School," a Justice Department program that helps pay the costs of placing police officers in schools?

Clinton stated:

"Already, it has placed 2,200 officers in more than 1,000 communities across our nation, where they are heightening school safety"

Clinton also signed crime legislation passed by a Republican Congress that paid local schools to hire armed security.

For what it's worth, I disagree with both Clinton and LaPierre. The federal government should have no role in such matters. If states or local governments want to pay for armed individuals in public schools, that's their choice.

So, we place officers at school. At all the malls. At all public buildings. On all fire trucks answering a call. Just where does this end?

Ol' Wayne is batshit crazy, as are the rest of you that continue to state the answer to the terrible toll that guns are taking on our society is more guns.

Not necessarily more guns, just a more expeditious use of the ones we have. I favor arming teachers who wish to do so. Just the knowledge that a teacher may be armed would be a huge deterrent.

Clinton wasn't?

How many times must we correct you? Nobody is suggesting we need "more guns". There are plenty of firearms.

What we are saying is the answer is NOT more gun control laws that only serve to put law abiding citizens at a disadvantage against the crazies and criminals that don't give a shit about your regulations. Why would you want to give the bad guys an edge? That's insane.

You want to stiffen sentences for someone who uses a firearm in the commission of an actual crime? Fine. You want to put a cop your local school, go for it. But you will not put my family at a tactical disadvantage because you think AR15 rifles look icky.

Excuse moi Vern, did someone promised you a rose garden?

The reason firearms were invented is because there are a lot of assholes out there.

You stupid motherfuckers understand the situation but you want us disarmed. If you want to stay alive be aware of your surroundings, trust no one and carry a .357 S&W snub nose.
