Michigan has lost very possible way at Indiana over the past 15 years. It happened again Thursday night. Christian Watford scored 25 points, Cody Zeller had 18 and Zack Novak's desperation heave bounced high off the backboard, sealing a 73-71 victory for No. 12 Indiana.

Vasectomies up during NCAA basketball tournament, Cleveland Clinic says
March 15, 2012 | Is this vasectomy season? It is if you believe what the Cleveland Clinic says.
According to the esteemed medical center, men are scheduling vasectomies so they can recover — it’s usually just a day or so of resting and ice packs — in front of the television, watching March Madness. “I’m doing them every 15 minutes tomorrow with no holes. It usually won’t be that full,” Dr. J. Stephen Jones, chairman of the department of regional urology at Cleveland Clinic, said today. He said he noticed a couple years ago that vasectomies increased up to 50% during the NCAA basketball tournament.

He added that about half the patients he sees say they’ve timed their procedures to college basketball. For the record, metro Detroit doctors say they have not noticed a link between March Madness and vasectomies, though Dr. John Harding of the Michigan Institute of Urology, which has 20 local offices, said he recalls a couple patients who timed their procedures to the Super Bowl.

All in all, Harding said, December is the busiest month for vasectomies. “It must be something in the water or the air in Ohio,” said Dr. Riad Farah, a urologist at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit who has done vasectomies for 42 years. “Where they came up with that theory, I have no idea..… I’m steady every week. It’s a steady flow. I’m booked now through June.”

Dr. Kenneth Peters, head of the urology department at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, said he’s not experienced an uptick in vasectomies in his practice, either. “I don’t think in Michigan it’s really taken on, but probably with the appropriate marketing we can make it a trend.”

In 1992, Duke University stole the national limelight from the Fab Five of the Michigan Wolverines in the championship game.

In 2001, Duke once again stole the limelight, this time from Arizona University in the championship game.

Michigan University and Arizona University are both great schools, and social investments in athletics programs creates all sorts of intrigue between prestige-driven universities such as Duke and meritocracy-driven universities such as Michigan and Arizona U.

Who said sports can't bring mature and objective attention to education?

[So...will Duke repeat such a trend by stealing the limelight from Kentucky University in this year's championship game?]
