The Navy's fighting to get a rare viral mumps outbreak under control after it stranded a US warship at sea

Whidbey Island-class amphibious dock landing ship USS Fort McHenry (LSD 43) prepares for an underway replenishment-at-sea with USNS Kanawha (T-AO 196) and USS New York (LPD 21) Jan. 9, 2015.

100% VACCINATION RATE FOR MUMPS IN THE US MILITARY, YET THERE'S AN MULTI MONTH QUARANTINE ON THE USS Fort McHenry

Wow. Must suck to currently be on that ship.

Oh well.....................after 45 continuous days out at sea, crew members are afforded a "beer day", meaning they can have 2 cans of beer.

And...............if they go another 45 days after that? Another beer day. So, while I agree, it sucks to be at sea for long periods of time, there are certain little bright spots in it.

Beer day - Wikipedia

Authorization
When a vessel has been at sea for 45 continuous days and has more than 5 days left before coming into port, then a ship captain may request permission from the Numbered Fleet Commander to conduct a beer day. This authorization is not automatic and is subject to operational commitments, local threat assessments and the Commander's approval. This event is authorized once every 45 days at sea, so once a beer day is held, the ship's crew has to wait another 45 continuous days without a port call until another beer day could be authorized.[2]

they have Oxycontin on board ?

Actually, that would depend on what level of medical facilities they have onboard. If you are on a carrier, more than likely yes, because they have full surgical facilities onboard, as well as have doctors that can prescribe drugs like that.

On smaller commands, they might only have a HMC, with a couple of corpsmen onboard, and in cases like that, probably not, because the HMC might not have the authorization to prescribe drugs.
