The most honest three and a half minutes of television, EVER...

The point is when taken individually the thinsg we claim make America great, we arent even number one in.

So you can't name one then.

Exactly.

The 23 Best Countries for Work-Life Balance (We Are Number 23) - Derek Thompson - The Atlantic

So you tell me, where are we number one?

Give me SOME evidence that shows we are number one

I think its up to YOU to prove that the US is the best country in the world as clearly all data points to another conclusion.

These “rankings” are not facts; they are simply opinions presented as facts. Let’s look a little deeper…

Top five free-est countries
1 Estonia
2 Ireland
3 Canada
4 Switzerland
5 Iceland

United States is eighth.
Categories that make up these “rankings”

Economic freedom
US ranks 6th.

Government size and tax

US ranks 19th, mainly due to one of the highest corporate tax rates, and relatively high individual rates. Top marks go to the Bahamas and Saudi Arabia (#2 and #5) because neither has a corporate or individual tax. Free-est? Don’t think so.

Individual freedom
US ranks 19th; 90% of the rankings are based on the Freedom House political rights and civil liberties score, where the US was at 100%; 10% based on some Reporters Without Borders “freedom of the press” score, where the US scored 45th. No idea how these were generated, but it seems the press is pretty free in the US. Otherwise Fox News would not have continued to exist after 2008.

Longevity

1. Monaco
2. Macau
3. Japan
4. Singapore
5. San Marino

United States is fiftieth
As was stated by others, the US is a rich nation with bad habits and the means to indulge them. We die earlier because we choose to live differently; it’s not a system issue.

Health Care system ratings

1. France
2. Italy
3. San Marino
4. Andorra
5. Malta

United States is thirty seventh.
The WHO ratings are weighted very heavily for “fairness and equity,” so countries with socialized medicine are automatically rated higher, regardless of the quality of care. The US ranks number 1 in responsiveness in this survey, however, because we have the most resources available to patients and there is never any waiting for critical care, high technology testing or almost anything else modern medicine has to offer. I would rather have a system that responds quickly to my critical needs than one where I can go to the doctor without any out-of-pocket cost as long as I can wait six weeks to get in. Any health system can dispense penicillin if you have the flu; not all can provide emergency care in almost any eventuality in any area of their country.

.Largest economy? European Union. US is second to the EU.
The European Union is not a single country nor is it a single economy, just a loosely affiliated group of independent nations that have chosen to use the same currency (well, some of them; the UK is part of the EU but not the currency union). You might as well say the continent of Asia is the largest economy.

Countries rated with best work-life balance

1. Denmark
2. Belgium
3. Spain
4. Norway
5. Netherlands

United States is twenty third.
Best work-life balance? Is that what we’re striving for? Great countries and great economies are built through hard work and sacrifice, not “work-life balance”. The Americans that built this economy were not focused on work-life balance; they were focused on providing a better future for their children than what they had, and made sacrifices to reach that end. In any case, “work-life balance” is a free choice made by individuals; if balance is important to you, don’t go into a field that requires you to work more than you choose. However, don’t expect to make wads of money in the process.

Of course the US can do better, but in the grand scheme of things, I don’t care where an independent surveyor or some UN organization thinks we fall within their “unbiased” rankings. It is valuable to admit our failings when they exist and try to fix them. But some like to wallow in self-loathing and focus only on the negative; there’s a lot more positive in this country than those people give credit for. The world is a better place for America’s existence; at some point in the future if an Asian or Middle Eastern power assumes ascendancy, we’ll see if their reign is as benevolent.

How many of these countries spread their wealth around the globe? If we decide to stop being the policemen of the world we have to decide to stop being their rich uncles as well.

Thank you for an even tempered measured and logical response.

And why have we fallen from #1 in nearly everything? The Communist/Marxist/Socialist policies of the redistribution liberal who has destroyed this nation with their failed ideology.

And that, my USMB friends, is the most honest 15 seconds on message boards...

I can only HOPE it doesn't take 15 seconds to read that post..

Maybe for SOME of our posters.................. :D

Sounded like a typical far left rant to me it could have come right off Mahers show one thing I do know I have never seen any of the people who say America is not great or exceptional be in any rush to leave this country is far from prefect but I will take over any other country out there.

Alright. Name one that's better. Im not going to claim everything is peaches and cream, but what nation is better?

I think overall we're way ahead of whoever is in 2nd Place, but the truth we USED TO BE #1 in almost EVERYTHING. That video to me is a wake-up call for those who have gotten comfortable with mediocrity. We're still good, basically, but we used to be GREAT!

ETA: Whaddayaknow, eots posted a thread that won't go to the Conspiracy Theories Forum..... :clap2::lol::D:cool::udaman:

we were never number one in everything.

"can you say why America is the greatest country on the world?"

the question was why America is the greatest country on the world ...

if the answer is going to be political, one answer might be the unprovoked Iraqi War as a turning point and the frivolous waste of the Nations Treasury to pay for it.

but America still remains the Greatest country on the planet ...

Depends on what you deem is greatest.....

Throw the lying cheating stealing pandering to the rich Reaganists OUT- see sig.

This series is a liberal scream against our crap journalism- they just repeat party lines, don't dare to, or spend enough money to, find and report the truth. And Fox and the rest of the Pub propaganda machine are a disgrace, as are Pubs and the silly dupes. SEE SIG.

The video is a monument of left-wing populism. It has gone viral; you can even find it translated to many languages. The scene is perfect: a smart independent guy, a diverse young audience... But using those average figures to describe such a complex and big nation, is very opportunist.

He talks about education. Ironically, american students scored better in math and science when there was not a department of education. Didn't they?

The US life expectancy is 78.2 years. Similar to many european countries.

Border control: The U.S is the only rich country in the top25 with fastest population growth, together with Nigeria, Congo, Philippines, Ethiopia, Pakistan... The U.S. is adding 100 million new people each 3 or 4 decades, most in the South. As you can see, poverty rates are not the same in Arizona and New Hampshire.

More facts. The number of Nobel laureates coming from US universities is higher than ever.

The U.S. is the second exporter of goods behind China, not the fourth. And is the world largest exporter of capital goods (aircrafts, turbines, machinery, semiconductors, earthmoving equipment, medical equipment, etc).

Defense spending? America spent even more in the "good old years". More than 10% of GDP in the 1960s.

That little neutral country, with 3% of unemployment, where 60% vote against a tax hike for the wealthy and against more paid holidays.

"Really"???
Aaron Sorkin is the producer of "Newsroom" AND was producer of "West Wing"...
So any question his bias?
Liberals are smart, ethical, intelligent and above all compassionate...
Conservatives.. conniving, evil, profitmongers and above all hate blacks.

As far as the speech here is the last line and the anchor's solution...

"The first step in solving any problem is recognizing there is one—America is not the greatest country in the world anymore."
Great "Newsroom" speech: America isn't greatest country - HinesSight

OK... so..?
How does that change my life or millions of others that like me DIDN"T watch the show because
we all know that the USA get's bashed MORE by it's own people then any other country!
