The most honest three and a half minutes of television, EVER...

Alright. Name one that's better. Im not going to claim everything is peaches and cream, but what nation is better?

The point is when taken individually the thinsg we claim make America great, we arent even number one in.

So you can't name one then.

Exactly.

So you tell me, where are we number one?

Give me SOME evidence that shows we are number one

I think its up to YOU to prove that the US is the best country in the world as clearly all data points to another conclusion.

The series aint as good as this clip. It just goes back to Left/Right Liberal/Conservative stereotypes we've already heard a million times.

Fuck, I didn't even know it was a series...I watch THC, Discovery and NatGeo when it's not on the SpeedChannel...

I dont even know what show it is lol. I dont watch HBO much. They dont usually have good programing.

It is The Newsroom, Aaron Sorkin's latest attempt to provide social commentary through telling the behind the scenes drama in a cable newsroom. Not a single reporter thinks he got close to reality, and the show just sucks. I predict that it will not be renewed because it makes some really bad TV look good.

It isn't up to me to do anything other than show how absurd the ratings used to prove the US isn't number one are. Let us take the freedom one, that puts US at 8.

Abortions are illegal in Ireland, Canada has restrictions on the press that the US would consider intolerable, it is illegal to build a minaret in Switzerland, the constitution of Iceland specifically allows restrictions on freedom of expression restricted by law in the interests of public order
or the security of the State, for the protection of health or morals, or for the protection of the rights or reputation of others, if such restrictions. I don't know enough about Estonia to comment on their ranking, but the rankings are obviously subject to debate.

And why have we fallen from #1 in nearly everything? The Communist/Marxist/Socialist policies of the redistribution liberal who has destroyed this nation with their failed ideology.

And that, my USMB friends, is the most honest 15 seconds on message boards...

America (USA) inherited it's position at the top after 1945 because the rest of the world was still smoldering from WWII. Our natural resources helped fuel our economy and rebuild Western Europe, N. Africa and Asia. We've been declining(well the rest of the world has actually been catching up) since the 70's.

We went from an exporter of oil to an importer of oil. We went off the Gold Standard. We lost a war not on the battlefield but because of politics. Then after a brief battle with the reality that we had to conserve and not get stuck over a barrel (of oil), we had the policy of trickle down economic which failed to trickle down, and we went from an net exporter of manufactured good to a service based economy and a net importer of manufactured goods. And that just gets us to GWH Bush and his manufactured war with Iraq, which actually turn out to be a good thing because it exposed some really bad things that Saddam was doing because of his alliance with the Raygun administration (a hidden Manhatten Project style nuclear program for starters).....opps I'm ranting.

So you can't

Nobody answered the question "where is it better" we have problems but we are working on them without going to war which is more than a not of countries can say.; What other countri.es let people come in legally or illegally and give them the freedoms they have here. If there was one them our foreign population would go there. I am sick of people who live here complaining about America when the best you can do it type. Get involved or get out.

paying lip service to us being the greatest is just a way to ignore the many problems we have yet to solve.

you just want to live in a fantasy land

You can find the most honest television ever at any time of the day, just tune into MSNBC.

The newsroom is another liberal propaganda machine. Be prepared for it.

I think the United States is still the greatest country in the world and it will be for a very long time. This country still has those people that created and made this country great. Every generation, there are those who inspire, create and innovate and I believe there are even more waiting in the wings for that one idea, that one advancement that will make life in this world easier for all.

The problem is all those people who smother and rip down ideas with regulation, laws, bias and envy. Stereotypes about whites, blacks, southerners, the poor and on and on, it makes no sense.

I'm done.

dear fool the whole reason we have been on top finacially for some time now is the developments out of Nasa.

While Aaron Sorkin definitely leans left, he has also presented some of the very best right wing arguments I've ever come in contact with. His presentation of the right wing point of view convinced me on more than one occasion that the left is on the wrong side of a particular issue.

That was a powerful three minutes and the most powerful part was when he was bolting out statistics of why we aren't number one any longer. How we have to strive for excellence and we don't. We are settling for mediocrity in Congress, in our leaders and in our own lives.

Look back in our history. That isn't the way it was. That is what I got out of the message.

Exactly.

Excellence is no longer valued, in fact, it's now 'evil'.

We design our education to cater to mediocrity rather than to challenge stellar students.

Etc.

We used to be heads and shoulders above the rest, but the Great Equalizer Party has different ideas for our place in the world. Hell, 'American Exceptionalism' is now a bad attitude to have.
