I didn't mean to hijack the post but it's interesting to analyze the motivation behind the nose art. I expect the Pilot had the final say in decisions regarding nose art and the crew's opinion was considered but you gotta wonder why a crew would go along with a bland "Enola Gay" in place of a cartoon character or a well endowed movie star. I suspect that Col Tibbets wasn't the first guy you would invite on a wild week end liberty in Hawaii during the war.

Most nose art consisted whimsical characters and movie star babes. Col. Tibbets chose his mother's name. It kind of tells you something about the guy.

That he respected his mother?

And note: I have also seen references to home towns ("Windy City", "Big Apple", "Jersey Bounce"), plays on words ("Bock's Car" comes to mind), and yes, tributes to family ("Mother And Country"). There was a B-29 called the "Hap Arnold Special".
