Monkees are way before my time so I may be wrong here. I thought they were mostly actors not musicians, didn't write any of their music, and were basicly like milli vanilli or new kids on the block. Put together as front men to sell some records, not really musicians.

It started out that way, but their best songs they did themselves.

boyce and hart and neil diamond wrote the majority.

Mickey Dolenz is painful to look at.
