Even when I was a liberal decades ago, I questioned authority and was more than willing to work for what I got and did not want the nanny state's help or interference in my life. I was not terrified of Christians, offended by churches, or sent screaming into the night at the sight of a handgun. The KKK at the time of it's founding promoted a popular agenda among a much larger segment of the population. They had free reign to dominate a population that was mostly unarmed. The same circumstances applied today, would lead police to finding the same assholes dead on the lawns of their victims before they could light the cross.
