Hartmann nails it. 90% of people in this country do not know the difference between a political party and a political philosophy. The philosophies remain the same, the parties vacillate back and forth between them. Over the years both parties have shifted between conservatism and liberalism and the more or less extreme positions in both.

The bedrock fact remains. Those who adhere to a conservative philosophy have opposed every social advance since the founding.

Conservatives used to be of some value. They served as a counter weight to impulsive liberals. They were a stabilizing force. They were always kind of stuffy and elitist but they were generally intelligent and could be depended upon to run a government. That was a long time ago.

Since Raygun they have become increasingly reactionary. They no longer have any notion of preserving what we have, they wish to tear it all down and have nothing with which to replace it. That seems to be the plan. Their total plan is reduced to tax cuts for the wealthy, deregulation of industry, the total militarization of the country and the destruction of the middle class. They have been successful in all of these things.

I think we can credit Gingrich and his highly successful GOPAC with giving the conservatives their offensive success. He engineered the demonetization of certain words and convinced lots of folks to vote against their better interests. This continues to this day and has become the model for all campaigns.

As a conservative how do you respond to the fact that we have had twelve years of wet dream conservative government. Obama has not changed any of the basics of what was there when he came and has expanded some of it.

How has that worked out for you? The rich have grown much much richer, poverty has increased, the middle class is shrinking and losing buying power.

Where are all those jobs the rich were supposed to create? It is estimated that the super rich in America has about 3 trillion bucks in fallow bank accounts, creating no jobs, doing nothing! It is essentially an impediment on an expanding economy. Everyone knows this, no one will admit it.

We had a huge recession but please remember that these policies, instituted by conservatives. were supposed to have prevented that.

The conservtives have come to the utter idiocy of saying that if the democrats do not agree to their tax plan they are playing "Russian roulette" with the economy. And what are they doing as they, as a group, pledge "no new taxes" to Grover Norquist.

As Bush one said, "Who the hell is Grover Norquist" and why is he more important than the country?

I look forward to your answer.
