According to the devoted followers of the Bush/Cheney administration and the GOP Congressmen, the entire disaster of the last eight years belongs to the Democrats. The Republican faithful blame every mistake and misstep on the Democrats who controlled Congress for the last two of those years. To believe these deluded people one must accept that the simple majority held by the Democrats since 2007 had the necessary votes to start the useless wars in Iraq and Afghanistan that began four years earlier. That same slim majority had the muscle to gut the EPA and weakened environmental rules long before 2007. Those magical Democrats somehow passed retroactive laws that handcuffed agencies like the SEC with deregulation thus allowing the bankers and Wall Streeters to run amok for eight years, six of those years while the Republicans had a substantial Congressional majority. These clever liberal legislators used their political voo doo to trick Dubya into signing all of these harmful policies into law, leaving him unaware of the disaster a few years in the future. Yes, if the Democrats can continue that magic, a turn around will be no problem, we all know the Republicans can only stand by powerless and watch as the Democrats use their legerdemain to take the country to the very edge and then bring it back at will. Why anyone votes for the ineffective GOP is anybody's guess, try as they might they never do anything, this is by their own admission, it is the Democrats that set policy at all times.

OTOH, it's necessary to imagine that without a majority in congress Bush did the unthinkable... whatever floats yer boat, yo.

The steadfast Republicans of the working and middle class have credited Dubya and the GOP controlled Congress that held absolute power for the first six years of that administration for the great prosperity, the winning of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and complete safety of this nation. They also blame the Democrats for the losing of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, passing disastrous laws that killed the economy, and 9/11. All of which happen during that same time.
As my original post in this thread demonstrates, the Republicans have conceded that they had no ability to govern during the last eight years, that it has been the Democrats setting policy, that when viewed to praise Dubya was great, but when viewed to bash the liberal party caused the mess the world now faces. Accomplishing this wizardry while in the minority for six years, and in a simple majority for the last two is amazing, and must be some sort of trickery by the Democrats.
The GOP believes that their members never lie, or make mistakes, that being the case it is more than obvious that as a governing party the Republicans allowed themselves to become impotent, irrelevant, and useless.

The Republicans want it both ways, things were great and at the same time thing were rotten, If it is dandy today the GOP is wonderful, if the same thing happen tomorrow and its bad, the Democrats are to blame. As I stated, you Republicans know that you are always right, despite your own contradictions. It make you fun to watch.

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way- in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only."

You probably should have chosen "Broken Record" as your user ID.

We've been watching the "magic" since January 18th. I'm not impressed. They learned NOTHING from losing power in the 90. They just picked up where they left off. At first I figured it would be after 8 years, but at the rate it's going, it's not going to take that long.

Seems to me that electing people to run our government who are students and devotees of a philosphy which thinks government is evil is a rather stupid idea.

But it appeals to many Americans until government and the economy stops working then we elect the Dems hoping that their contempt for this nation and it's citizens is slightly less toxic than the Neo-cons'.

well, you can't fix stupid. the difference between the two parties, outside of their marketing literature, is nil.

The grand irony in all this is the republicans have had much of the power for over thirty years and yet somehow it is always the other guy's fault. And today you hear the same stuff after the democrats have been in power only a few months. Politics is like sports, some stick with a loser because they only know losing.

The Bush Accomplishments

Republicans always say that government can't do anything right and then get elected and prove it.

That is alway a good one.

They Republicans used to stand for fiscal responsiblity and less government spending. That went out the window when Reagan was elected.
