The loss of the 2nd Amendment and its consequences

The loss of the second amendment would only remove the mandate to protect our rights. It would do nothing to remove the right to keep and bear arms because the amendment does not provide the right, it mearly protects it. The right is given at birth and is, as far as it goes, a universal right, meaning that it extends to all persons until they use it to interfere with the rights of others.

Except it is pointless.......

Technology and the ability to fight asymetric wars has advanced to the point where even with assault weapons the people would be badly overmatched. What do you think the war on terrorists is? The founder fathers were considered terrorists in their day. The risk those same technologies can and has been turned on the people is high. Bush already spied on American citizens without a warrant! Obama is not better in he killed one without a trial!

At this point it is stupid symbolism that does little to actually protect us from tyranny. If people actually cared about the concept they would give on some of the issues around assault weapons in exchange for substantive changes that would in fact make us safer from government tyranny.

As far as religion is concerned, I wish there were some restrictions that could be put in place.
Islam's founder was clearly a pedophile, based on his history and his teachings were that sex with children was acceptable. I'd like to see all written material seriously advocating sex with children (the Quran in particular), banned form western cultures.
As far as guns are concerned, there was just an article in CNN that claimed that addressing semi-automatic assault-style weapons was missing the point and that the number one killer of people were the Glock handguns. After convincing the public that Glock handguns had to go, then they would point to other gun manufacturers/types. Slowly getting rid of them.
The time for individual gun owners to continue sitting back on their couches and grumbling is diminishing and thought should be focusing on gathering together with other gun owners in their areas to form possible defense strategies.

The number one killer of people is not the Glock... Knives are used more often than handguns to commit murders but even knives are not number one. The number one weapon used to kill people in the USA is hands and feet - the human body. Most murders are committed be people who hit and kick their victims to death. Maybe that is why the liberals support abortion. They are trying to restrict the number one killer in the USA.

If an uprising came about you are foolish if you don't think the government wouldn't use drones to put down the uprising. What do you think an asymmetric war is. It is a war to put down a popular uprising. We don't recognize it as such because we don't agree with Al Quida but why do you think Ron Paul is so against it. It is the perfect training ground and excuse to develop strategies and technology that can be used against our own people.

Our 1st, 4th, and 5th amendment rights have been legislated into nonexistence already thanks to the war on drugs, the war on organized crime and the war on terrorism.

Come on 2nd amendment defenders you all know this already do you not?

It always starts out by taking them away from those who "shouldn't have them", and eventually ends up being "everyone except the government". It's called incrementalism.

Maybe the goverment is the only people who should have them. The milatary could then be the only ones with weapons, it takes longer to kill a hundred people with knives than it takes to kill a hundred people with guns. The people can't be trusted with guns, we have proved that.

And the solution is to just give up and allow a further dissolution of our rights? Yes the US is moving dangerously close to a totalitarian state with our over focus on wars internally and externally. For much of this I blame the right wing. But for that we also lose our 2nd amendment rights.
