"Someone who does not know the difference between good and evil is worth nothing"-- Miecyslaw Kasprzyk, Polish rescuer of Jews during the Holocaust, New York Times, Jan 30, 2005

It took a Polish rescuer of Jews in the Holocaust, cited this week 60 years after the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration and death camp, to best describe those people who cannot, or refuse to know the difference between good and evil. They are "worth nothing."

Since I was an adolescent, I have been preoccupied with evil: specifically, why people engage in it and why other people refuse to acknowledge it's existence. As I have gotten older, I often find the latter group more infuriating. somehow, as much as I don't want to, I can understand why a Muslim raised in a world permeated with hate-filled lies about America and Israel, and taught from childhood that God loves death, will blow himself up and joyfully maim and murder children. As evil as the Muslim terrorist is, given the Islamic world in which he was rasied, he has some excuse.

But the non-Muslims who fail to acknowledge and confront the evil of Muslim terror and the evil of those monsters who cut innocent people's throats and murder those trying to make a democracy--these people are truly worth nothing. Unlike the Muslims raised in a religious totalitarian society, thay have no excuse. And in my lifetime, these people have overwhelmingly congregated on the political left.

Since the 1960s, with few exceptions, on the greatest questions of good and evil, the Left has either been neutral toward or actively supported evil. The Left could not identify communism as evil; has been neutral toward or actively supported tha anti-democratic pro-terrorist Palestinians against the liberal democracy called Israel; and has found it impossible to support the war for democracy and against an Arab/Muslim enemy in Iraq as evil as any fascist the Left ever claimed to hate.

There were intellectually and morally honest arguments agianst going to war in Iraq. But once the war began, a moral person could not oppose it. No moral person could hope for, let alone act on behalf of, a victory for the Arab/Islamic fascists. Just ask yourself but two questions: If America wins, will there be an increase or decrease in goodness in Iraq and in the world? And then ask what would happen of the Al Qaeda/Zarqawi/baathists win.

It brings me no pleasure to describe opponents of the Iraqi war as "worth nothing". I know otherwise fine, decent people who oppose the war. So I sincerely apologize for the insult.

But to the Left in general, as opposed to individually good people who side with the Left, I have no apologies. It is the Left--In America, in Europe and around the world--that should do all the apologizing: to the men, women and children of Iraq and elsewhere for not coming to their support agians those that would crush them.

That most Democratic Party leaders, union leaders, gay leaders, feminists, professors, editorial writers and news reporters have called for an American withdrawal and labeled this most moral of wars "immoral" is a permanent stain on their reputations.

About 60 percent of the Iraqi people went to vote despite the fact that every Iraqi voter risked his or her life and the lives of their children, whose throats the Islamic fascists threatened to slit. Yet, the Left continues to label the war for Iraqi democracy "immoral" while praising the tyrant of Cuba.

Leftists do so fo rthe same reason they admired Ho Chi Minh and Mao Tse-tung and condemned American arms as the greatest threat to world peace during and after the Cold War. The Left "does not know the difference between good and evil." And that is why it is worth nothing.

Great article. I especially like the following paragraph. It essentially points out why those liberal Democrats of today who are still against the war in Iraq are such losers:

There were intellectually and morally honest arguments agianst going to war in Iraq. But once the war began, a moral person could not oppose it. No moral person could hope for, let alone act on behalf of, a victory for the Arab/Islamic fascists. Just ask yourself but two questions: If America wins, will there be an increase or decrease in goodness in Iraq and in the world? Most Muslim fundamentalist Theocrats are on the extreme RIGHT, not left. Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini were on the extreme RIGHT, not left. Extremes on both sides are dangerous. The Extreme Right, however, has consistently been able to grab power, where the only cases of long term power on the extreme left were/are the Soviet Union and China (I include their satellites like Cuba and Vietnam in this). Iran is a country run by right-wing fascists, as is North Korea. This auther clearly needs to take a lesson in basic political science before making such sweeping characterizations. Just because someone is to the left of George W. Bush does not make them evil. Just because someone is to the right of John Kerry does not make them evil either. About 80 percent of us fall one of the two afformentioned categories.

Great column Bonnie! Tried talking to 8th graders about the difference between mortal sin and venial sin. Seems murder is the only thing that made the grade, until we got to discussing it a bit more. :dev3:

There is evil, you can feel it.

Facism and communism at opposite sides of the same coin. Socialism. The right fights against socialism in all forms.

Wrong, wrong, wrong. Facism is not socialism. That's like saying monarchy is democracy. They are categorical opposites. As I said, take Political Science 101 and you'll learn this. Fascists and socialists/communists hate each other. Here's adefinition from Benito Mussolini himself "In 1932 Mussolini wrote (with the help of Giovanni Gentile) and entry for the Italian Encyclopedia on the definition of fascism.

Fascism, the more it considers and observes the future and the development of humanity quite apart from political considerations of the moment, believes neither in the possibility nor the utility of perpetual peace. It thus repudiates the doctrine of Pacifism -- born of a renunciation of the struggle and an act of cowardice in the face of sacrifice. War alone brings up to its highest tension all human energy and puts the stamp of nobility upon the peoples who have courage to meet it. All other trials are substitutes, which never really put men into the position where they have to make the great decision -- the alternative of life or death....

...The Fascist accepts life and loves it, knowing nothing of and despising suicide: he rather conceives of life as duty and struggle and conquest, but above all for others -- those who are at hand and those who are far distant, contemporaries, and those who will come after...

...Fascism [is] the complete opposite of…Marxian Socialism, the materialist conception of history of human civilization can be explained simply through the conflict of interests among the various social groups and by the change and development in the means and instruments of production.... Fascism, now and always, believes in holiness and in heroism; that is to say, in actions influenced by no economic motive, direct or indirect. And if the economic conception of history be denied, according to which theory men are no more than puppets, carried to and fro by the waves of chance, while the real directing forces are quite out of their control, it follows that the existence of an unchangeable and unchanging class-war is also denied - the natural progeny of the economic conception of history. And above all Fascism denies that class-war can be the preponderant force in the transformation of society....

None of which addresses the fact that the American Left have stood on the wrong side of every national security and foreign policy issue since the advent of the cold war.

Then your teacher is a freakin idiot because fascism and communism are both socialist. There was a reason the Nazis were called Nazis they were the national socialist party. Both believe in government controling all aspects of economy and any other part of life. Which of course is socialist. It is only the myth of the left that facism isnt socialist. It was all they could to do justify their own idealogy. But the fact is when the government controls business it socialism regardless of whether you want to call it communism or facism. and of the two it appears that communism is the more fatal of the two.

Oh Bon Bon, how could you post such nonsense.

A post which says in no uncertain terms that "the left is evil" definitely deserves some sort of award.. :thanks:

Looks like Mr. Prager is head-over-heels in love with Bush rhetoric. Evil doers, Republicans. Black, white. Night, day. Binary rhetoric at its most intellectually dishonest. And y'all are eating it up and asking for seconds.

Then again, maybe I AM worth nothing; maybe I am anti-American, and I legitimately do support evil.

P.S. Why does Mr. Prager find it so hard to say that people who support evil are worth nothing? That's like in the school yard when a kid would say, "You're a stupid fag bitch. No offense."

You may be a Democrat, but you aren't exremely left. I would say Moderate Democrat.

You shouldn't take this person seriously, not everybody on the left is evil just often misled and misunderstanding.

Actually, socialism has been misused. The true definition of socialism deals with worker ownership of business. Hitler and Stalin threw in the crappy notion that the government and the people are one so the state can control the means of production. The Nantahala Outdoor Center in the Southeast of the US is a prime example of what socialism is meant to be. It is entirely employee owned and operated.

Marx was an idiot because he did not account for the rise of the middle class.

I think Prager's point has been lost becasue of the rhetoric he repeated in his article. Probably shold have been titled "Those that do not stand up to evil are worth nothing", so I agree with you, however he was quoting someone else who would most asuredly have that idea in his mind, if you look back to the first line you will see it in it's context.

That said, the left as defined in this country by and large have done nothing to stand up to other evil governments, and many leftist Hollywood types like Robert Redford and ex president Jimmy Carter have even gone so far as to embrace Evil such as Fidel Castro by throwing parties for him.

yeah, besides the fact the the coastal 'blue' states are states that account for more revenue than many other states combined. the long and short of it is, dear, that we finance the war on terror, and the rest of bush's idiotic economic mismanagements.

http://www.census.gov/govs/www/statetax03.html take a look for yourself, and see if you find a state that kicks in even half of what we do. you will. it's NY, a state that soundly defeated bush.

why am i taking mandarin? because i'm not stupid.

left worth nothing? it's a joke, right?

Interesting how the rhetoric has changed isnt it? Hasnt the left for years been proclaiming how they are for the little americans and its those big greedy rich Republicans that are trying to screw the people over. Now the left is showing who they really are. They are rich elitist snobs and have utter contempt for people who they think are below them. They whine about giving their money for the war on terror instead of their precious social programs to keep the little guy down. Meanwhile, we give our blood and work our butts off to keep them free.

This contempt the left has for the common man is exactly why we will see civil war in the years to come. They wont stop until they have power over us even if they have to start killing us "redneck slobs"

So your whole rebuttal to this article is CA pays a lot in taxes as does NY??

Yeah okay? I think you miss the point of what Mr Prager is stating.

the article is totaly and utter garbage.

you condone cluster bombing civilians and then try to say the left should apologize for somehow 'supporting' the beheading terrorits.

it makes blanket statements, with no factual references to anything in reality.

it is only propaganda that the right wants to believe when they can't maintain their hypocritcal actions namely with so many illustrations around the latest fiasco.

just reminding you who keeps this country running.
