We may leave "loons and outright fucking idiots" to ornithologists and the OP respectively, but socialism and communism are mutually antagonistic with Liberalism. As for political parties, a Liberal may be a Republican, a Democrat, or one of those with a streak of realism, i.e. no party affiliation at all.
