Unless China changes its demands tariffs increase a lot Friday at 001 hours. Chinese trade with the US goes through Pacific ports and that has a huge mostly indirect effect on those coastal states. The effects on China and the EU will be even bigger but that coastal part of the Blue wall will have the Ds scrambling. Even after the trade deal is done a lot of creative bookkeeping will be uncovered and that will have longer term effects.

So the $5 shirt at Walmart will cost $6. Big deal.

I dont know about the left coast? but USMB left loons have totally lost it over President Trump. Crazy, obsessed, foaming at mouth.

I guess Trump has to tank the economy to quiet them down? They want America to fail so badly, or go back to the stink of spying BO?
Land O' Goshen!

There's a job right here, striking superfluous apostrophes.

Nafta and GATT killed them, but the very expensive high speed looms out of asia is what drove them to the gallows back in the 80's and 90's

Unfortunately Bill Clinton destroyed the possibility of big manufacturing to ever come back again.

The EU is the second largest textile exporter and the US 4th. Some of the US market tried to move to Mexico but ended up in Asia after NAFTA because at the time Mexico's infrastrucure was so piss poor they couldn't do continuous operations due to lack of 24/7 electricity and water.

Might take time, but if we are to remain in our status as a SUPER POWER FOR OUR SAFETY IN THIS WORLD, then we best undo the sell out of America quick fast and in a hurry. I think Trump is on track for this now, but hopefully it hadn't gone to far that we get challenged before we shore up the defences.

Already being challenged from within, and that is a major challenge in and of itself.

Democrats should be happy because money is evil, except in the hands of government, that is.

Tariffs are a new tax. The people most affected by it will be trumps base.

Yet when Obama tried to bolster solar and electric car manufacturing the GOP balked. The reality is that manufacturing in a quickly evolving marketplace with a pissy as hell capital market that disfavors bricks and mortar expansion instead of mergers and such is a tough tough thing to navigate. It is going to require a lot of *gasp* socialism. Companies can beat earnings expectations and have their stock prices fall as a result because the gross was less than a previous gross, for instance. I can't imagine what would happen to their stock if their gross dropped and they didn't make expectations because they actually reinvested that money in building a new factory.

Well look what we've done here.... We have "thrown out the baby with the bath water" over time, just as an old phrase once spoken alluded to, so the hurt will be on us. The suffering can't be blamed on anyone but ourselves in this delema that the nation has since created for itself.

Obama was only making things worse, because on one hand he was this champion of the tech industry "modernization", yet on the other hand he was a huge part of the problem when it came to encouraging more and more poverty sprawl across the nation, more dependency, and more depravity to be paid for by every working American still holding on to a job the Democrats said would soon be extinct.....Then he told them that the jobs wouldn't be coming back, and that the new norm would be less employment and more tech.

Ok, so what did Obama figure on doing with the millions of dependents that the Demon-crat party were using to hold up the party once they figured out just how duped the Demon-crats had duped them in life ????

The US does have nobody but itself to blame, so why blame China and illegal immigrants? They are "Look, Squirrel!!!" I personally think the biggest mistake made in the last couple generations that got us where we are today is the complete unwillingness to put the brakes on "Venture Capitalism" i.e. corporate raiding. Manufacturing has always been low hanging fruit for that crowd because it is often loaded down with bricks/mortar, land, machinery, intellectual property, and is often cash constrained because of the perpetual need for newer fleets, machines, etc..
