The left claims the rich are stealing all the money, what say you?

One way to ‘see’ the distribution of wealth in the U.S. is to imagine a group of 100 people who have a $100 between them. Evenly distributed each would have one dollar of wealth. Alas, that is far from the actual distribution. According to the most recent study, Currents and Undercurrents, by the Survey of Consumer Finance (Federal Reserve, Department of Treasury, 2006) wealth is distributed accordingly:

50 individuals at the bottom have a nickel. ($0.05 times 50 = $2.50)

The next 40 each have $0.70 of wealth (40 times $0.70 - $28.00).

The next 9 each have $4.00 of wealth (nine times $4.00 = $36.00)

The last richest individual has $33.40 (one time $33.40).

And you are guaranteed, or should have guaranteed, equality in outcome??

Nobody is asking for equality of outcome..

However, if we need more revenue......should we go after the person making five cents or the person making $33.40?

If the person making $33.40 wants us to continue programs that enable him to accumulate more wealth....why should we?

Yeah tell that to Goldman Sachs!

Assessing risk is not so easy Grampa you should be bright enough to know that given your pontification on this subject.

And you should be bright enough to know thats not what he was talking about. Goldman Sachs doent run the corner lending stores he is referring to.

No but everyone thought they were AAA+ and they cost us all much more than some poor sap looking for a car loan at a reasonable rate.

I know what you meant you meant for us to fall for your shell game and agree that the poor should get shafted cause they are poor.

I was as poor as poor could be. I was in that situation because of my own decisions. Had I not decided to change it I would have deserved the shaft. Got it?

Every one of them meant to alter behaviour.

and the stupid liberals cannot understand why business is leaving the US.. you can tell they don't have degrees in rocket science.

Of course I do because the return on dollars invested out of the USA is about 3-5% higher than on dollars invested in teh USA so let's destroy the nation for a short term 3-5% gain.

These are the types of things the Govt prevented before "free trade" and Global Ecconomy" became buzz words. It was the Govts way of protecting the middle class and keeping the ecconomy strong.

So rocket Scientist Twisty Knickers, is it worth it? How are you gonna feel when your SS and Medicare evaporate?:eusa_hand:

And they will EVAPORATE WHY? HOW? Care to elaborate? Or are YOU going to regale us with more talking points that don't amount to a hill of Yaksqueeze?

And you are saying you don't have the same freedom of opportunity?? Please show me the law or laws that restrict you or anyone else's opportunity

And please remember.. freedom of opportunity does not mean that you get to do everything, but that if you obtain the means all on your own you can do the exact same as anyone else... nor does it mean that if you do not have the qualifications (in the case of a job) that you get a boost because you belong to group X

Are you seriously suggesting that opportunity is equally distributed? That there is no "Who, not what you know at play?"

I gave you proof that opportunity is equally available to all, in a post above. You have ignored it.

No I have disagreed with you on that point to a lesser or greater degree.

Yes there is a huge ammount of opportunity here in the US, perhaps more than anywhere else I really don;t know.

However, Luck and knowing the right people are not in the perview of law so the absence of a law regarding those things does not mean they are not at play in the system and sometimes they are in play to the point of rigging the system. IMO.

Why do you hate the poor?

I know this is like beating a dead and buried horse that was dug up and buried again, but I can't help myself with you. Your definition of equal is quite funny.

Yeah.. equal is funny... well, when it is actual equal treatment and not changed all over with subjective criteria

Equality comes with good and bad.. and you and your kind only want equality in treatment when it benefits you or those you support.... and as shown many times, you fully support inequality in treatment of others when it benefits you or those you support

And you only want "equal" when it benefits you and your wallet. How noble of you.

Really??

Have I not said that if it is required that mine goes up (say the needed tax rate is 40%) or if mine stays exactly the same that it is fine as long as everyone else pays exactly the same?? (now I would argue on it actually being necessary for everyone to be taxed at 40% because I believe government to be too large, but that is another story).... Do I support unequal treatment of others in any way shape or form because it benefits me??

Keep dreaming

No you haven't. You've completely ignored the post in question.

Opportunity is not something distributed.... but having the freedom across the board to pursue any opportunity (success or failure) is indeed there... having an opportunity or equality in going after an opportunity is much different than being given an unequal boost or score to equalize the output or result because of situation or 'disadvantage'

The Rightists are the one's claiming that we cannot keep spending and that entitelemtns must be cut.

There are also plenty of folks out there who want to scrap SS all together.

Sure if you are a certain age you will get your benefits or whatever the rightists decide to let you have seeing as it will be a defunct and outmoded system if they get their way.

If you seriously believe they won;t then you are quite the optimist. IMO.

We should 'go after' everyone equally... just as sales tax is equality in treatment on every dollar spent...

Investments are a risk. It is a shell game, and If you lost money with them that is part of the risk. No investment is guaranteed. I lost all of my retirement in my divorce so what should I do? Whine about it? Sue someone? Or work my ass off to regain my losses?

they touch SS and they will never win another election no matter how much they cheat

Socialist Security as 'Entitlements' that keep people ensleved to Government are and always WILL BE a giant lie.

Have a problem with this?

Clearly you want to whine about it. you've already whined about in this thread twice. Sorry your wife left and took you for a good sized chunck of change. IS that why you are so bitter?

Whine to Government, Gramps. I'm sure Gubmint will send you a crated Unicorn...with all the rainbows you can stand. ;)

Its not a whine, it is an example. Proof of having choices and paying the consequences. Sorry that simple concept is beyond you.

Uhh it's the math that shows that the money is concentrating at the top.

You can blame the left but it's the Math.

First I want to say that "THIS THREAD IS NOT ABOUT TAXES"

Now that that is out of the way lets address your idiotic post.

You can do math till youre blue in the face and all you get are results that show 2 things:

1. The rich are rich and you (apparently) are not.....why is that?
2. There are more rich today than ever in the past...why is that?

Did the rich take money from you? They certainly didnt from me. In fact the rich support the bottom half of our country as well as the govt. That is MANY get their money and necessities met specifically BECAUSE OF THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE RICH.

Then you have the fact that their are many more "rich" today than ever in the past. Could it be that they fucking worked harder and risked more than the average American? How many risks have you taken with your career and your assets? Or are you content in your cubicle? Dont blame others for your lack of ambition.

Then we have people LIKE YOU who convince the bottom half that their plight is not of their own making. Thus enabeling them to become even more complacent in their dead end lives and making them believe your complete nonsense that its someone elses fault.

Anyone and everyone has the same basic opportunities in life. Its up to them as individuals to do something about it. Im living proof.
At 20 years of age I was released after 3 years in prison. Upon release I went to college and trade school to better my life. I didnt sit around and moan about how fucked up my childhood was and make excuses for my position in life. I took arguably the worst scenario a person could be in and turned it into a business that has survived for around 23 years now.

In fact one could argue that my life is growing largely as a result of the contributions of the rich. Their successes in life have enabled them to retain my services, which then TRICKLE down to everyone that works for me as well as their families.

The rich are nothing more than a punching bag for people like you because youre too afraid to place the blame for your shortcomings where they belong.......ON YOU.

No response? :eusa_silenced:

Ill bump this one last time to see if you have the ability to discuss anything beyond rhetoric and talking points. Im kinda doubting it...........

Understood...

I am asking where you stand on equal treatment in taxation.. Seeing if you support X% of people paying no income tax while others pay subsequently higher rates on income... Or if you are yet another in a LONG line of people who will scream for equal treatment in only the aspects where it benefits you or those you 'support'...

I would be for the repeal of the Bush tax 'cuts' too, as long as the tax cuts that have gone on for WAY too long with other people also go away (you know, those people who pay zero in federal income tax and have for a LONG time)

Yes I am all for closing loop holes and stoping people from paying zero taxes. Skin in the game I believe is the term that best sums it up.

And equal % taxation on every dollar earned without exception, from every citizen, without floor, ceiling, loophole, or exemption??

Gideon

Did not see you answer this one...

Just that I am looking to see where you stand for future discussions down the road.. I kinda keep up with who stands for or against what
